Hey Guys,
After the laughs, grey hairs, loosing my rag, actual tears of joy, sighs of relief, money spent, arguments with my ex, the break up(s), the people I have met and good friends I have made on the way it completely breaks my heart to tell you that I have deceided to break my mk4 after a problem with my bottom end now on my Aum (they are no good for a ko4 honestly).
I have been fighting it since back in August when I got made redundant from my Mortgage firm of 5 years and since then I have been temping here and there not earning even half of what I used to and cannot actually afford after looking at my finances to keep on with the project of my life so far. I am actually really upset to let you guys know that this is my final decision and even though I want to be cannot be swayed. Those of you who have seen my car in the flesh and have met me know how much I love my car and how much effort and stress has gone into it. It was a project with started way before I even had an inkling that my whole industry was going to crash and die and therefore had the money to plough into it and actually acheive my aim of creating a show/cover car from a completely base model mk4 golf, this is one thing that I am truley dissapointed in the most.
But bottom line is due to being let go from another temp job of 4 months, I cannot actually afford to have this car anymore due to the unstablitly of my income now. I will be on the look out for another car to have in the meanwhile while im saving my money so if anybody knows of anything preferably 1.9tdi or 1.6 engine or smaller please let me know (willing to do deal for parts)
My car is being broken over the next month and all parts will be stored in my garage from the ko4 set up to the suspension and smoothed tailgate. I will be putting up a long list of special bits in classifieds over the weekend, as well as the normal bits from the mk4, bonnet, wings, etc.
Thanks again to everybody that have been supportive of my dream and to those of you who have offered help and helped me on the way to realising it almost all the way. Still be dubbing guys so dont worry, may even give Rhyso a bit of satisfaction now by saying if I can get one cheap enough I may even buy a mk4 derv, but it'l be staying standard.

Hi mate, shame to see it go this way, i remeber seeing ur golf when it was in the early days! ( when i vagcomed ur car at the RR) I hope u get it all sorted and can start all over again :) next time get a AGU that can take the power :P

i feel for ya mate, when me and the missus decided to get married my pulsar had to go to help fund it, it was my pride and joy, 450 mad horses, but now 2 years down the line we got a house an evo 8 and a mk4 gti,
stay positive, keep ya chin up and good things will happen, am sure you will be back sooner then you may think with something bigger and better,

really really sorry to hear this, i really wanted to see this car in the flesh since joining this forum and seeing pics of it i can only dream of mine being half as nice. fantastic looking machine.

thats sad, i can understand how much work you put in as im going through it myself now. shame it let go is it worth just hanging onto it and get a cheap run about till you can sort this one out?

Sorry to hear that, that has been some project, blood sweat and tears. but the need for deep pockets is somthing eveyone here can relate to when you start the moding trail.
hope you get sorted with another motor, and hopefully things on the work front will improve for you soon.

Ash, do you need the money from the mk4, or is it just the running costs? I agree with Dai and Rhyso, if you can keep it, garage it, SORN it, and keep it :smiley:

mate I never met you, but have read over your thread a number of times. I can really appreciate from your words how much turmoil you must have gone through to reach this decision. I hope everything works out for you mate - and like the other boys have said, if you can somehow keep it, then you should!

like said all ready put it in the garage and wait till the money gets better for you alot of work has gone into that dont just throw it all away m8 keep her.

Sorry to hear bout your hard times Ash. Keep your head up and it will come good. Just garage your monster and when you're back on your feet can get her right again. Too much has gone in to that car just to end it now!

Sorry to hear this Ash, your car has been a real inspiration to me (not just saying that either) hope you'll still come up to Brands with the new motor. I know of a mk3 red TDI going for £500 ish?

:cry: harsh times indeed mate! if it is an option i agree with Rhyso, Dai and Bonb sorn it be a real shame to let go, know it must of not been easy but understand the situation your in and that it sucks big fat donkey balls!!!!

agrred with the others Ash, do feel for you as i have been there myself before. No money will replace the sweat,time or effort put into your car. If you could keep it garaged then get a run around then it may be your best option, as you would be gutted if you started stipping it and then a job does come up.
But anyhow, hope things improve for you fella.

really sad to hear this mate but ive been in excactly the same position and with me it was the best decision i ever made......ive always dumped all my money into my cars and an '88 mk2 XR2 TURBO and £12k later then a 4x4 cosworth and £18k later then a 325 bmw and £8k later then a gto twin turbo and £6k later then a m3 and £20k later then another cossie and finally my evo5 things had to change realising id spent £70k modding + buying/running/servicing my cars seemed stupid but hard to fight so sold my pride and joy evo5 when we were told at my work that overtime wud be drastically reduced car went thing is the overtime didnt drop whatsoever i was abit peeved of but it made me realise theres more to cars in life i bought the golf 1.8 aum turbo have done some moddest mods and left it at that!!! ive more money in my pocket my house is nicely done up and my new girlfriend spends more quality time with me!..........eventho im getting another e46 m3 coupe in 2 years (slight mods only).....what im trying to say mate is if u can keep the car and garage it or if u have to sell it do it but it might be a blessing in disguise etc.......either way cracking car and goodluck with everything n keep smiling dude :cool:

Your car has always been a fav of mine since i got here, seeing it at shows and knowing the amount of work that has gone into it is pure heartache to see it go to waste.
I hope you get things sorted mate and that you dont have to break the beast.
