Can anyone tell me if this is worth doin and what sort of gains do you get ???
The car is 100% standard at the min.
As it's goin cheap at the moment i just may have to have a go
-
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!
had mine done in November - power all through the rev range and 55mpg + on a run
make sure you budget for a new clutch and flywheel down the line - how long it last depends on you and your driving style
-
how far down the line we talkin ? Fast ish driver, 30k on the clock and havin a major service at the end of the month

anywhere between 5K and over really
mine was on 80K when i had it mapped and replaced the clutch at 85K
Budget £900 as putting a standard clutch back in is a pointless exercise
-
Foook
Best get savin then
Cheers
-
get it done!! you wont regret it :afro:

ryso u wont be getting 55mpg when u slap ure gunmetal diamond cut annis on expect summot like 45mpg unfortunately
-
Strange, according to the weight table on uk-mkivs:
http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/151116/1332831.aspx#1332831
the annis with tyres only weigh 2kg more each than the monty2s- an extra 8kg all round wouldnt reduce economy by 10mpg surely????

doubt it - as long as yout tyre pressures are good and the car is regulalry serviced i can't see it taking that big a hit - guess i'll find out in a few weeks

 in time for the meet?

yours is the 130 remapped init so it might not be as bad but it will be abig hit in proportion... co z i regularly service mine and its in good nick but i was shocked... but then again am not too disheartened coz the looks and grips are second to none probably just slow down a bit instead.

I was getting around 48-52 with the RCs on, I'm back on the Monty IIs for the winter and getting 55+
Across the tank, you're only looking at losing 50 miles which isn't too bad, and I'll be putting mine back on in the spring time.
-
what speeds do u do to get 48-52?
-

the limit
70 mph on cruise, obviously if I hit stop start traffic this drops to about 44-48 but on a clear run 48-52
i'm on a green cotton filter and cruise
-
right i think am cool then coz if i drive it at a constant 70mph then ill get around 48 but i so used to drivign at 80 and getting 50mpg that when ave been doign it with ma 18s on the drop was so big and i thought huh thts weird...
ordered a new maf anyway from vw see if it makes it any better... but i guess the general consensus is that at 80 ish expect a drop of aroudn 5mpg atleast!
-
ridg: whats teh benefit of the green cotton filter as a pposed to normal vdub filter i take it this is air filter .... any ideas where from and price? or is it the same as the oem vw dub filter?

Personally I see no reason why you should be exceeding the speed limit in the first place, all you've doing is putting yourself and other road users at risk, and costing yourself more money, and for what a couple of minutes saved? for example if I drive at 70mph it will take me about 40minutes to get to work, if I drive on the motorway @ 80mph I'll save 2.5 minutes, I'd rather keep my licence and get a few £ in my pocket.

other than the affect the rims have had on your MPG why do you think you need a new MAF?

an after market panel filter, will allow a greater air flow, than the standard one, which means that it's easier to satisfy the demands of the MAF, whilst the VW is more than good enough, an after market one lasts longer (assuming you clean it properly when you're meant to) can give a better throttle response and improve the MPG whilst cruising.
-
hmmn not sure how u worked them timings out but driving at 80 is hardly putting other road users at risk especially when the average speed of driving is around 75 to 80.
i know what u mean though but 70 just sees to much slower than 80.
dunno why i want to change the maf thought it might improve it slightly......even before the rim change my mpg was a bit down the car doesnt have any judders or flat spots etc it does drive smoothyly but the new maf mite help?

you are wasting your money mate - your mpg will be down because of the colder weather like previously mentioned
cancel your order and spend the money on something else
-
you know summot mate i think ure all right it must be the cold weather cheers cud get a new gear knob coz i dont know what to tighten my knob up with mind the pun coz the ring is so awkward to get a good clamp on it since i changed my gaitor.
cancelled it.
-
got ma new air mass meter on today gonna see how it drives feels a tiny bit smoother though
-
Nadlad how's your MPG now you've you changed your MAF?? :undecided:
-
i drove at a steady 80mph and got 44mpg today on a 100 mile trip so its basically the same i sed to do 80 and get 52mph on ma 16"
-
i was thinking about a revo remap for my 150 any one had a remap from them?
-
I know this topic is at least over 30 days but having read everything I have 17inch RS6 with a r32 body kit on and I get on motorway to down south and back up north (approx 200miles) amd levelin out at 48.1mpg without a remap....am i gonna gain anymore mpg with one?

probably a couple more MPG
i went to Castle Combe last weekend, round trip of approx 160miles and not exactly hanging around - averaged 53mpg and thats with 18inch Anni wheels
-
is it worth it then for a few more MPG on mine?

up to you
i did it for the power increase  extra MPG was just a bonus

Just concerned about the clutch situation as mine has alread done 96k and cant see in the log book a new clutch? Other people say it will go I guess in the next 20k if it aint bin changed so may as well get a better clutch anyways?

it may go it may not - one of those things that no one can put a definitive failure date on.
If it does go don't put a standard clutch back in; you'll only waste your time and a considerable amount of money
