Hang on...  My 1.8 has the middle silencer on the striaght pipe and no middle box near the beam...  where as all my GTI engines have the big middle box and a straight through pipe from the cat.   So the 8v/16v backbox would not fit on my 1.8 (i tried and failed) it would need a bit of pipe welded on.  Mabey the later 1.8 is diffrent but i would check this first.

my last gti (94 model) had the exhaust from my old 94 driver and it was direct fit (ok the gti did come originally with a larger box near the axle but the shape and fitment was same....)

Right so hold on then, what are we saying? LOL!

If this backbox is off a 8V GTI, are all 8Vs the same in that area or not?

I know under my car I've got 2 boxes near the back and then the cat near the middle/front.

yeah will defo sell.

anyway if it doesnt fit, you can make it fit! it sounds like the hangers are the same, so it will fit where its meant to go. it will be the existing exhaust piping which will be the problem then and getting it to join the backbox. a bit of custom pipe shud sort it. thats if it doesnt fit directly.
