Title: Cr@p paint job
Post by: Roverdose on 14 January 2009, 22:51
Hi all , i recently bought a rado 16v for £500, when i handed cash over i knew i was potentially buying into problems, but with a jetta 16v with loads of brand new parts sat at home i thought what the hell! I didnt take as much time as i should have checking the bodywork, its had an awefull respray, the car is straight as you like but the laquer work is poor and all around the windows etc is just awefull, to boot the previous owner didnt re-spray the door like the rest of the car and settled for an almoast-the-right-colour replacement from a scrapyard, the mismatch in colour is epic during the day! from a distance the car looks lush but i want to sort it before it gets worse as the only other problems i had is a intermitent imobiliser problem and a warm up reg / metering head. Im fully strapped for cash, i.e. i have 75p to my name and a baby arriving suposedly tomorrow, what is the best value for money d.i.y. paint job that wont look sh!te and protect the metalwork till i can get back into ft work again? i have alot of bodyshop experience but never touched a paint gun in my life! i have one tho   and a small compreser!
Ive been thinking maybe, ironing out any imperfections in bodywork, sanding down the body to take the crappy not very well stuck on laquer off, red oxide, sand, red oxide again, sand, matt black to finnish / hammerite then polish to perfection (Which IS doable to outstanding standards) Time is no issue but cost is so please help!

mine is on the right hand side

i know i must sound like a bodge artist but i have no wish for my car to turn to powder! lol!

i would wait until you`ve got the cash then have it done properly, no point throwing good money after bad
