Morning Guys and Girls!
Quick question, missed my train in this morning mainly because the windows wouldn't clear on the car! I've noticed this recently since moving to a house from an apartment where the car always used to be tucked up in a nice warm underground garage.
Does anyone else find that the windscreen takes ages to clear on the inside? It's as if there is not enough power or heat coming out of the blowers!
Sorry for the rant, just don't like getting in to work late in the credit crunch! Come to think of it, probably shouldn't be on here in the credit crunch either!!
Cheers

Are you referring in particular to the front screen?
If yes, are you using the top left hand button on the climatic controls to clear the screen?
-
Yeah, everything else is ok. It's just the front screen.
And yes, i'm using the top left button with the picture of the windscreen on it. I've got the vent open on top of the dash as well.

Where I live the last 3 weeks temps have dropped as low as -10 some mornings and I have never had a problem. I just press the button for the windscreen & rear screen, turn the heat level up to high and it clears with relative ease. I make sure I get all the thick ice off the windscreen too otherwise I'll be there all day.....
Are you using enough heat? It also pays you to keep the glass clean inside & out as moisture seems to love to cling onto a dirty screen....

I've had a bit of steam up recently, normally its just if you have had anything wet in the car in recent weeks or got in with a wet coat etc...
The trouble is that the car is kind of a closed environment so i find that if you have had steam up for a while sometimes its good to crank the heat up and have a window/sunroof open a bit when driving once in a while, this allows the hot (moist) air to escape and should reduce the issue in future days.
The other thing is to keep the inside of the screen really clean as this helps, as do the variius anti-mist products you can buy,
cheers,
R

Also use recirculation when clearing mist on cold mornings - gets it done much quicker

Agree with all that's been said above. You might want to consider changing your pollen filter (not sure on the age of your car) - a blocked pollen filter can cause or exacerbate steaming up...
-
When people say use full heat level, surely there is no heat until the engine is up to temperature?
-
Always had this issue with car when its very cold temps. Car lives outside and steams up as soon as car is started. Tried every known setting to man and makes no difference. Pollen filter is changed evry year, so thats not the issue, just have to sit and wait for it to clear.
I think some cars suffer and others do not, used to have this on an E36 BM years ago with climate never got to the bottom of it.

if you have really damp mats that doesn't help either
-
anyone tried using fog/rainx? I was thinking about buying these.

The secrect is simple. Use the top left screen clearing button, but turn off the ac
Job done. The first time you do this the ac will kick out some condensation of its own... but its nothing to worry about. Once its gone, its gone

Mine has done it since day one. Tried everything to remedy it, except pollen filter. This is number 2 on my "most annoying things about my car" list. I came out of work at 11pm one day last week, and the inside of the windscreen was just as frosty as the outside. Took 10 minutes for the heating to get up to temperature enough to defrost it.

My climate system is totally 5hit compared to my 4-Mo mk4. No discernible difference between hot and 16c, cold is only cool. It’s going in for warranty work, it’s rubbish, probably needs a recharge. Never really worked properly.
Should be Ice Station Zebra, not humid amazon rain forest. rant over!

My windscreen takes ages to demist too.

I don't know about the Mk5 but the Mk4 a/c with Climate won't run if the outside temp is below 4 degrees C so in theory is wouldn't matter if it was on or off. (Assuming the temp is below that if your having to deice the windscreen)

You may well be right, but I find that it does make a big difference in the rain.

I thought this problem was down to faulty seals on all early golfs? i enquired at my local dealer he said they do have a recall issue for some faulty seals creating condensation inside steaming up the windows.
mines out of warrenty so nothing i can, will try that ranx fog stuff see if that works
