So if you read my welcome topic you will hopefully geuss that i know nothing about styling! Which is why i came here in the first place! Im looking for a new set of alloys for my 2000reg 1.6SE Golf.
Now, How do i go about determining the size of alloys? 15" 16" 17"? does it depend on the tyre size?
If im going for new alloys should i also look to invest in new tyres as well?
Pls dont laugh aha! im tring to learn  Any help would be awesome! Just a point in the right direction would be cool! Thankyou!!!
-
all depends what sort of look your going for really, have a look in teh post a pic of your mkiv section see what wheel others have put on etcmightbe a good starting point, but if you get new wheels your going to need new tyres in most cases
-
Welcome.
Have you got alloys on it at the mo then?? you prob got 15", what dose it say on the side of the tyre?? i.e 195/65/15 ect, the 15 is the wheel size.
Get some 17" or 18" :afro:
-
thanks for quick reply! 175/80/14 .. Would you have any recommendations?

14inch alloys you got then.
Recommendations as to which alloys to buy, or to what size to go for?? size wise anything form 16" 17" 18" just remember the bigger the wheel the more pricey the rubber's going to be, and maybe a slight hit on mpg.
-
Ok cool, any webistes or dealership to see or to avoid? thanks for ur help man

Search 'alloys wheels' on google.
You'll need a PCD or 5 x100 and would suggest getting 17's or 18's. Be prepared to lower your car after aswell.
-
Excellent, thanks a lot. So whilst looking at the alloys it says they come with tyres as optional and are listed as 215/45/17 Would they be right?

Just for an example

There was a thread on this a few days ago. Try searching mate. As I said you may want to lower your car aswell.
-
Will do, thanks.

Tyres sizes as fitted by VW from factory are:
16" wheels: 205/55 R16
17" wheels: 225/45 R17
18" wheels: 225/40 R18
If you stick with those sizes then your speedo and MPG should stay roughly the same...

thanks a lot mate

Only just got the car, you think that would look aight? I don't really have a clue when it comes to this, just wan't it to look swish :undecided:
-
They will look really nice mate on there. What size are you going for?
-
16" .. was informed i might have to look at lowering my car if i go any bigger then that, and i think rich said that the mpg and speedo should stay relatively the same  In time to come id loveee to go bigger, but with my next golf maybe :) wish there was a way i could stick them on the car to have a proper look at them :undecided:
-
If your not sure then hold off. If your going for 16" then wmy not go for some Montreal II wheels which were standard on the GTi?? They are on E-bay for around £150 a set with tyres.... At least you would know what they look like!
-
150quid .. jeesh .. links!?! I haven't placed an order yet lol .. luckily! Im kinda overcome with excitement, just wanna get moddin/stylin
