Title: Heating
Post by: oldtomo on 13 January 2009, 07:42
Morning everyone,

Bit of a random question but when i put my heating on i can hear a strange "knocking" sound coming from what appears to be behind the glove box.

The only way i can describe the sound is that it reminds me of a fan that is catching something as it turns round. But strangely it will only last for a second or two before going away. Sometimes it will randomly start again in the same journey before stopping and sometimes i will not hear it again until the next time i get in my car.

It is really bizarre and i just wondered if anyone could shed some light on to it?

Many thanks,

Tom

I get this too in my 58 R32... think it's just air conditioning flaps going through some reset when the ignition is turned on.  :undecided:

Hi Tom, I asked the same question a while ago: http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=91750.0 (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=91750.0)

Hopefully these problems will be sorted in the MKVI.

Dont really want to revisit the old thread but Id be pretty certain that the noise is the sound of the actuator moving to achieve its temperature setpoint that you have set. At least it sounds like a acutator ticking to me.
