hey all,
does any one know where can i get a lightened flywheel?? and whats the best weight to help turn my gti into a rev monster? cheers
-
Buy a new one and have a local machine shop lighten it for you to the specified weight I guess. Not sure what weights are good though...
-
Be wary of who you get to do this. I've seen pictures of a gearbox smashed asunder by flywheel shrapnel. Get a pro to do it.

would be nice to have it balanced too if you building a motor have the the whole lot done
oh try hotgolf didnt get mine off him but im sure he dose them and would sort you out
-
when you go to get it balanced you need to take the crank and pressure plate as well
where are you? i have heard good things about basset down balancing in swindon
-
hotgolf did mine, but been hard to contact as of late  top chap

ok cheers guys :) im on the isle of wight  but the only problem living down here is every one thinks they can do every job and they all think the are a pro at it so i have to look off the island all the time to try and find some one who knows what they are talking about  im building a 2.1 liter 8v gti :) if any one has any ideas on what weight fly wheel would help turn it into a real rev monster? but it would also have to last more tahn a day with the power  cheers

Are you using a cable-change gearbox, or rod change?
Makes a big difference.
I had my cable-change flywheel taken to 6kg from 9kg (IIRC) and it's still a fine drive.
There are *some* good people on the IOW. Are you on IWEvoCars, Gareth?
-
Personally, I would not lighten a flywheel unless I had the crank out as well, so that they could be lightened and balanced as a matched pair. Ideally, the clutch pressure plate could be added too, but these things get changed with the clutch, so you could be 'building in' problems later.

im using a rod change :)

could you tell me where they are hiding please i find it very hard to find any pros over here :)

no im not is it worth joining?
cheers

I'd say yes, if they'll let you in.
There are enough people into motorsport down there - there's even a guy with a 16V G60 motor in a Corrado which looks very sweet. These people are getting stuff done somewhere and it ain't sloppy.
I'll see if a mate knows anywhere that would do the work for you.
-
thanks very much mate that would be great  ill try joining the site to day :) cheers
