remove the bottom of the airbox you will see a trumpet shaped piece where air is sucked inb at the front of the airbox remove this (resonater) then drill some holes I did 20mm along the inner wing side of the airbox, fit a K+N panel filter and bobs your uncle job done and sounds a treat when given some stick.. :)

Only a waste of time if you don't add a k&n or something similar.

When i bought mine it already had a cut out instead of holes. The inner wing was cut aswell. Panel filter H&R, i think was fitted. I must say over 4k rpm its sounds very nice, also been told this by various people.

Well worth it for the sound alone, btw mines a 2.0 16v.

I have been told that its a fairly easy conversion but dont quote me on that.

I wish my car was running fine when the site had a rollong road day at amd but had a few little problems. I hope to have it up soon to get it tuned as its eating petrol like a b!tch.

9A block is a straight swap for the KR block  ;)

Just drill it, piece of piss to do and sounds nice. Optimal if you put an performance filter in there but still sounds nice with standard filter. Should take 10-15 mins tops.

LMAO@Fraiser. He is older and wiser ;D so i thought id make an old man happy. TBH he did rinse me a couple of times, but since then i have had a new clutch and new linkage parts, i dont think he would come near me now.  :P

9a i have heard is a easy swap and well worth doing for easy extra power or even better as ive been told mines got a 1.8 16v top and 2.0 16v bottom end, will take some pics to confirm.

Can you take the box out completely and replace with a cone filter as long as you can get it to fit?

cone filters would not b the best thing o use if u want a little more get up and go ur safer keepin ur airbox and usin the k&n flat panel filter as these do take in a cold air feed tho the cone type filter takes in a warm air feed and that would b no use at all the only thing u gain from addin one of them is some note. safer off wif flatt panel and a few hole`s as some mentioned about there inner wing being already cut all vws r like that jst pull away the black plastic box and theres ur hole there a thing about that if u want cut the vent from the vw transporter off the wing off it cut a bit outta ur wing and weld it in over that hole and that will supply ur filter with a cold air feed

you gotta keep the airbox on a 16v anyway because of the metering head ;)
