hi ive gotta 1.8t gti 2000 reg, and iv noticed since iv had it, it drinks petrol quite quickly even if driving very cautious.?? it cost around £45 to fill it and does roughly 180/200 miles on a ful tank is this correct and the same with other peoples cars? i can't see a leak what so ever and jus wanted abit of re assurence. i've gotta baily d-v fitted would this be causing me to use more fuel? i'm going to be changing it to a forge soon as i've heard using any other d-v could damage the turbo and cause significant engine problems? any help would be appreciated guys
thanks

Should be doing atlast 300 if driven sensibly! Get it scanned for faults mate.
-
also forgot to post that on my trip computer it says 24 mpg could this be right?
-
i need to get it scanned for a airbag fault could they check this on a vag com machine at the same time?

Some nice chappy on here might have vagcom near you just sort them out a drink. Could be loads of things mate. My mates passat is doing it and its the lamber sensors on the exhaust could be them. Vagcom will tell you exactly what it is
-
I have one. Where u from?
-
from birmingham, need to get it on a vag com cause 1, of the fuel consumption n 2, airbag fault & light.
was gun buy vag com off ebay for like 15 quid n drop it on my laptop is it worth bothering cause i dnt really no much bout cars n if it had all these faults what could i do?
-
All it does is tell you what fault codes you have and clear them. If ur getting it fixed bt a stealer you might aswell give it to them. But its useful if ur sorting the problem urself to save £`s
-
what sort of journeys are you doing?
-
obvliously if there is a fault wit the fuel management & the air bag fault & light and i can clear the codes would it do more damage than good?? also is the software easy to use and is it self explantory to clear the faults? where did u get ur vag com from? n how muh mate?
-
im doing normal short journeys
-
Yup should do AT LEAST 300
-
jus ordered a vagcom cable of tinternet so in a couple of days wen it arrives should come up with a fault, i've herd ppl say u can programe like miles to empty and other cool stuff with vag com is that true? if so what oher tings?

what like 3-4 miles?? cos that would be why you're getting crap mpg - you're basically driving the car on the choke (so to speak) car hardly warms up, and burns more fuel as a result
-
I saw an increase in my mpg this morning due to the warmer weather
-
yeah i live bout 3 miles from work so by the time i get there the engine has just warmed up i do drive further a field at other times, so maybe nuffin wrong with my car..hmm time to move house
