ummm, the fastest i've got her to go is 97mph, but i ran out of road (pulling out onto a busy motorway junction would brown my pants, bigtime)
and i don't take her to fast anymore cos i don't need her dying on me at the mo, slightly untrustiong in the engine as the engine decied to start to leak oil!
-
I had 80mph out of this rented 1.1 fiesta this week ;D
I didn't lock it all week and no one stole it >:(
-
1.3 right here :P
-
i got one of the first 1.3s (manual tappets) fitted the replacement weber carb this morning and i've just had a head gas flowed and both manifolds properly mated to the head to improve flow breathing which i'll slap on within the next month also got mk 3 gti rear axle with front and rear anti roll bars. 0 to 30 and back to 0 i'm thinking i'll be quicker than most standard gtis
-
1300cc of pure muscle, top speed of 75 lol since i put estorils on it,its even quicker in 4th than 5th
-
Have a look at this months The Golf++ and you'll find a 1.3 mk2 that eats 8v GTI's

Quick question, what are manual tappets and what reg is yours??
-
They don't have tappets, they have rocker fingers.
-
I have a 1.6 with a relocated carb and a green air filter bolted onto the end of it, I think its being restrictive at the moment due to the sheer angle of the curve. A exhaust system slapped on the arse and thats it for now. If anyone has any suggestions on how i can pump my motor up PLEASE post them ;)
However, My car will blow most of the 8V and 16Vs away when it comes to asthetics, Especially when my parts arive next week ;)

1.8 8v cam

mine's an A reg. they changed from the manual rocker finger type tappets to hydraulic bucket tappets in august/sept 85. i don't know the exact difference but i suppose they're just two different ways of transfering motion from the cam to the valve.

I've got a MK2 1.6 a fair few probs when I bought it but all fixed with my own two hands. Even the 2e2 carb works perfectly now, no manual choke for me! ;D
I'm finally happy with the looks after my latest mod, a GTI spoiler. It's black, sexy, and I love it :)

The are as described.
The early rocker type are just like fingers that pivot on a ball stud, the cam lobe rocks the finger, which then opens the valve. The valve clearance is adjustable.
The bucket tappet is like an upside down bucket with a plunger in the middle, the tappet has a small hole in the side that fills with oil, this pushes the plunger out which takes up the valve clearance. The cam lobe pushes down on the tappet which opens the valve.
