Title: Overheating ?
Post by: coco777 on 17 June 2004, 18:06
:'( My 8v Digi is overheating according to the temp gauge, but on the LCD it says 92f-94f (which i've been told is normal) when the temp guage is reading 2/3 across ......../...
Ive flushed the rad out, renewed the thermostat, flushed and changed oil, but still the temp gauge rises to 2/3's.
I also had to renew the heater bypass valves (which sorted out my heating problem).
What should i look at now to try and sort this problem ? I've noticed that the fan does not come on that much when i park the car up after a bit of a work out, although the temp gauge rise so high, it does come on sometimes, but not all the time.

p.s. there's no air lock.

you did not say wether the car is over heating stationary or moving.
my car runs to the right of centre on the temp gauge as long as it is in the 'normal' section marked on the gauge it is ok
i assume you have checked all the fan wiring.
the fan thermoswitch should close around 98 celcius using meter and water at this temp

The temp on the LCD never goes above 100f, what is the optimum engine temp ?
I may be worrying about nothing if you say the fan dont kick in till 98f.

The temp on the (lcd) mfa? is for the engine oil. If it goes to 3/4 and the engine cooling fan comes in, and the engine temp drops I think all is ok :).

check how many wires you've got going to your fan. if there are three then it's a two speed fan. It might be that the first speed is not cutting in. Don't stress the engine temp though, I can get up to 112-114 when I'm thrashing it  ;D
