Whilst trawling through the Mk5's currently for sale online I noticed for the first time that the sliding cup holder cover is not fitted on all cars. My 55 R32 had one and I'd assumed until today all Mk5s came with one as they do really tidy that part of the interior.
Is it simply a cost cutting measure from VW? Is there a MY when the cover stopped?
-
I don't have one in my 08
-
its in my 05 (55) MY 06 GTI ..try someone later....?
test_richie is yours a Motorpoint import? subtle differences like that are commonplace.
-
its in my 56 plate 07MY
-
Its on my 05 which also has Aluminium cigarette lighter cover which looks better than the current black plastic ones, there has to be some benefit to having an older one!
-
is not on my 05
-
My 06 has it and I believe it came with all cars with the centre arm rest.
-
Again from looking online the late cars all appear to have the arm rest (perhaps standard by then?), but still no cup holder cover.
-
any pictures? the cup holders on my 08 gti are by the handbrake and you have to use that silly bottle opener thingy to make the cups stay in position. Wish gti's had cup holders similar to those found in the A3.
-
Mine are just boring normal cup holders which are SH!TE compared to the mk4 ones - 06 plate. There's a little voice at the back of my head telling me its something to do with a luxury pack, smokers pack maybe that determined the cupholder style.

they seem to not have them on 56 reg's for some reason, mines a 58 reg and its got a silver spun style center console

^^^^ yeh but that was a 90's style feature of cars, keep it simple in my eyes
-
I HAVE ONE FOR SALE IF ANY ONE WANTS ONE.. NO CUP HOLDER TOUGH.
-
NO CUP HOLDER TOUGH.
SORRY, i mean no bottle opener...
-
I've got a sliding cover. 57-plate.
It's a bit too shallow for my liking. Keep getting paranoid about red bull spilling everywhere, which is why I've switched to Lucozade Active. It has a lid.
The best cup holder I ever saw was in a Saab at a motorshow back in the early 90s. The action was sooo smooth, even to this day I haven't seen a cup-holder that works that smoothly.

The sliding covered cup holders are only present on those cars ordered with the arm rest. Arm rests were not standard fitment on any MK5 other than the GTi Pirelli. The arm rest in my 08 Edition 30 was either £90 or £120 - can't remember how much off the top of my head.
-
£120 checking th price list.
-
MY 05 with arm rest has the sliding cover etc, (and the silver ashtray cover ). As has been said the sliding cover only comes with the arm rest. Really makes a difference to the interior.
