Title: Replacing steering rack
Post by: danj3000 on 08 January 2009, 20:37
Evening all,

This weekend i'm going to swap over a new steering rack onto my golf due to the original having a chipped tooth.
Now i've got the haynes and given that a read a few times and it sounds relatively straight forward.
Just wanted to know if any of you have any tips for replacing the steering rack and also if there is anyway or tips to unable me to get everything lined up properly so not to mess up the tracking.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I wouldn't have thought it were possible to replace a rack without requiring alignment, however, you can always mark the steering rods with tip-ex or count the threads on each side.

Search the forum, there's tonnes of posts about this, even I wrote a how-to on doing a rack swap.
