Edit - re calculated the costs after going through the itemised bill
Just got mine back 180+vat for the parts and then another 188+vat for the fitting, add that to the service, replacement rear pads, etc and I did not get a lot of change out of 750. Happy Birthday/Valentines Day Present/and Wedding Anniversary all wrapped into one!

Just received notification form my local dealer that VW recommend changing the belt at 4 years, which it almost is .
Must admit I'm not overly happy about shelling out best part of £400 at this time of year. Especially when it's due for MOT and Service.
Thinking of delaying for a while as I'm skint
Is this a false economy?? I'm I taking a big chance?
On Ford's they have just increased from 4 years to 10.

On Ford's they have just increased from 4 years to 10.
Is that on belt engines or chain driven?

Ive just stagered all the jobs that needed doing front tyres last month, cambelt this month, back brakes next month mot and extend vw warrenty end of march a lot eaisier than doing all at once plus the car is picked up from the wife surgery and returned no problems and no charge.

Just looking here for info as just received letter from dealer re cambelt change. They are quoting £249 all in, sounds like a good deal to me. Mine is just coming up to 4yrs and due for MOT only done 42k. Rather have it done than take the risk.

Just back from a nosey at my dealer, noticed the price on the board for a cam belt change...FROM £500

I'll be getting it done elsewhere I think.
