Just wondering if this is a common fault on Mk2 16v's (89)
1st and second gear seem really sluggish in the lowwer revs then when over 2.5000/3000 revs it opens up and really pulls!
When cold it's worset of all but still happens when fully warmed!
also when for instance when i'm in second coming down hill to set of traffic lights for instance and I have my foot off the accelerator the car really jerks, normally an engine would just hold? Is this a sign of a problem also?
Thanks

i sometimes get that on my 8v digifant.
1st gear....very very slow, then next minute....your off.
Its abit dangerous at busy roundabouts :(
need to find the cure too
-
That exactly it! Then you over press the pedal at you take off in the 5000 revs :)
Love to know the cause, it's like a cough :)
-
over 4/5k the 16valve pulls beautifully!
ive got an 89 mk216v but i dont suffer this problem!
dont thrash your car when the engine is cold mate!
ull kill it! :D
-
I don't thrash it :) But when i am trying to pull away and nothing really hapens then I push the accelerator more and by the time the car decides to go I have nearly floored the accelerator and then I ease off!
Hope this is not a clutch problem
-
that might be the microswitches around the throttle. i think edd(veedub8v) had this problem and changed these

I have the first problem when cold sometimes but I have a Carb so its normal I think :)
The second problem is likely to be your front engine mount, best to get it replaced soon. Only ?25 from GSF :)

Thanks for the info, The car is going to a garage on Monday, i'll let them know and they can test it all for me!

check all your vacuum hoses and your fuel pressure regulator. that was what was up with mine
-
16v doesn't have a fuel pressure regulator, thats only for injector rails, it has a fuel accumulator instead.
It does sound like you might have a fuelling problem, is the fuel pump loud?
Try running some redex when you next fill up, might help.

Took it to my man at the garage yesterday, as he was checking the engine bay he noticed that:
1) when you lifted the engine by the front mount there was about 3cm of movement, is this normal or should there be no movement what so ever?
2) the gear rod coming into the engine, there was alot of travel, the bush that it comes through seems to be worn! also after the bush where it is on a h type bracket it moved alot from side to side, Is this normal?
Cheers
