Title: Carbon fibre Mirror housing
Post by: scoobs7 on 05 January 2009, 11:32
I'm getting so peed off with people who either can't reverse or don't know how to park... Recently i had to get a respray on my drivers' side mirror as some idiot couldn't reverse and scratched my mirror housing. It cos me £100 to get it done from my local VW garage. Luckily, the people responsible for the damage paid for it under their insurance. However, it has happened again...AAARRGGGHHH!!!!!!
I was thinking of getting some carbon fibre ones put on them this time but wanted to find a few things out...

If people still manage to brush the mirror housing whilst reversing etc, will it mark/scratch the carbon fibre? I won't get it painted this time. Are they a lot more scratch proof than the normal plastic ones??

I always fold my mirrors on the car. However, it's a shame that the mirrors on the MKV doesn't fold back all the way. I used to have a 1.6SE FSI prior to this and had the same issue where the mirrors wouldn't fold back all the way like the Audi's or BMW's.

Also, where is the best place to pick a pair of them up from? How much are they??

The surface of the cf housing should have a lacquer layer on it so my guess is that it will scratch if the same accident happened again.

Ok, but i guess it won't look as bad as it does when the colour coat comes off in the painted mirror housing.
I know a few on here have it on. Wonder what their thoughts are and if they can suggest places to buy it from?

Unfortunately where ever you try to get them may turn out to be as expensive as the TTShop.

Joe was very fortunate to get his off of the german ebay site as original OSIR stuff doesn't usuall show up there.

I bought mine from OSIR through the TT shop too (as did RedRobin).

I'd have no chance of getting genuine OSIR silver ones off ebay

Waiting for the OSIR rear spoiler to turn up now

These are cheaper, but just thin stick on covers  :undecided:

Look OK in the photos though and would give some protection :

Yeah, true... when u said covers, i thought u meant the mirror housing as opposed to the sticker.

You bet. Most of them end up being false advertising...
