The edition 30 badge has an adhesive back - just peel off - clean under GTi badge with nail varnish remover - apply.  Don't understand why they didn't do it from factory a la Mk2 16v etc -

Got these too !!! Soooo sad !!   - I love my local dealers - faultless in everyway - Sinclair Swansea - Have to be the best VW dealership in UK - never had such amazing service in my life before and after sale.

I'm going to wait until the current exhaust is dead before miltek, in the interim I took advantage of JKM's offer and paid £390 minus the complimentary £30 vouchers for JKM's Bluefin offer - should be here Tuesday !! and also bought a spare ED30 gearknob, which should be here tomorrow - am intending to keep the car long term so am buying up all the bit of trim so that I have duplicates when the originals wear out.  Next purchase BBS LM reps to save the Pescara's - even though they are still mint - taken today in the snow :-

i shall be waiting a while before my factory warranty runs out before i risk remapping . I would like to powder coat my Pescara's to anthracite grey like has been done by a few already. Im like you, i think this car will be mine for a while, had her now 9 months and still get a huge Buzz driving it, especially when she's all polished up, and gets soo much attention from onlookers.( as i imagine happens with all red ed30's).
Certainly along with the Candy white, one of the most striking colours.  IMO

Had it since June '08 still love it to bits! Wanted a candy white one but couldnt get one. This is my 3rd tornado red car after a D plate 16v Mk2 and H plate 16v Corrado just hope it doesnt fade like the others! No problems so far with german plates, believe they conform to EU regulations.

Post by: garethmk1 on 04 January 2009, 22:12
3 year paint warranty  :undecided: , 10 year corrosion through warranty - so it basically means that the panel has too actually rust through !!! Doubt this will happen within 10 years.  Just hope my beloved ED30 doesn't turn a shade of tornado pink.  I was told when buying the car that the paint base has changed from the old lead base to water base, hence why it stone chips so much more.  My Corrado & Mk2 didn't have as many paint chips after 150000 miles each as my ED30 has at 11500 ! Apparantely the water base provides more resistance to UV (main culprit of fade) than the old lead base slowing down the oxidisation process.  Howerver, I have read on other forums that the MK5 paint in some places is only 80 - 90 microns, especially on the roof.

We'll see either way - for the time being I just make sure that the car is waxed washed when dirty (it is my daily driver) usually twice a week, waxed using Dodo Juice Banana Armour forntightly and is sealed every 3 months with AG EGP.  That's all I can do to help the paint last really,

Regards,

Gareth

cheers for the Knowledge there Gareth, didnt know about the base paint type, best thing to do is keeping it clean and hand wash and wax regular like i have been doing ..(too much as the wife points out). I use autoglym stuff alot, dont know whether its sort of the same grade/ protection as the AGP you use?.

Auto Glym Ultra gloss protection and super resin polish

thats the very stuff i use, and for a quick wax, ive used the Autoglym aqua wax in the spray bottle
Title: Re: ED30 Pics In The Snow
Post by: garethmk1 on 04 January 2009, 22:27
As far as I'm aware Tornado red is just base coat and laquer.  I used Autoglym Super Resin Polish, then three coats of Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection - leaving 1 hour between coats and then 3 coats of Dodo Juice.  Last time it got Autoglymed was August ready for winter.  At the same time I used Autoglym Instant Tar Remover, then Super Resin Polish and some Meguiars 3rd Step Wax for the wheels with Autoglym Alloy wheel sealent on top, since then everytime I wash the car the brake dust just runs off the wheel, although nearer springI will be investing in some Jetseal 109 sealent - better than Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection and some Poor boys wheel sealent - extra protection for the Pescara's.

My 100th post too !! Been here for ages - but read more than I type if you know what I mean !!

Regards,

Gareth

Banana armour is just awesome for a boutique product - doesn't last that long 1 month max - but oh my god ! The shine !! I challenge anyone to find a better wax for a ref ED30 under £35. I'll post some better pics of the shine when I get back to my house shortly in addition to some red ED30 dodo detailing threads from other forums.

I use the Aqua wax aswell Phil but you just have to watch because it can sometimes leave streaky marks

Am quite lucky the cars only used 2 days at the weekend at most just now and gets washed using the two bucket method then dried and put back in the garage   The 1.7dti Combo is my daily weapon of choice  lol

Thank you all for the kind comments - Phil, here is the link to the best deal on eBay for Banana Armour - you'll love it. Had the tub since August have applied 3 coats initially and then a coat or two a fortnight since, done my brothers S3 too and only used 1/4 of the tub  at the same time get some decent applicators such as these :-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DoDo-Juice-Banana-Armour-Hard-Wax-250ml_W0QQitemZ260312131598QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item260312131598&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A15%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Meguiars-Soft-Foam-Wax-Applicator-Pads-x2-Free-UK-P-P_W0QQitemZ250348555969QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item250348555969&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A15%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

With this product - less is more - spread as thin as possible allow to cure and buff - AMAZING stuff. Not the most durable though.

Here's a link to a thread on a Tornado Red ED30 detail on Dodo forums, nice work :-

Couldn't resist adding this pic - first time I ever greeted my Edition 30, oh what a day - still with the transport blocks in etc ....
