Title: Tapping on wheel - brake related
Post by: maxp on 04 January 2009, 14:48
My O/S front wheel has started making a tapping noise that increases in frequency the faster i go.

If i drive with the brake pedal slightly depressed then it stops. It sounds like its going to be new something like new pads or something possibly more sinister?

Thanks!

It could be one of two things. The most likely is that your pads are rattling within the caliper. Quite common if a little embarrasing. Check the retaining clips/springs are there.
The other MUCH less likely is wheel bearing, but this would be accompanied by a constant rumbling sound from that wheel.

This probably sounds obvious, but if your wheel bolts are loose it can make this noise... mine did once when I forgot to tighten one set up for a bit... not my most intelligent moment...  :nerd:
