Title: Gaiter between steering column shaft and footwell?
Post by: euro dave on 04 January 2009, 12:38
Does anyone know what seals the hole around the steering column and the footwell/bulkhead?

I'm currently looking through to the road in my MK2, and I'd like to seal it to reduce any chance of fuming myself in the car.

Cheers

Nothing AFAIK. There is a rubber boot that covers the UJ from the column to rack, but not one that covers the interior UJ. That is covered up by the lower dash on the drivers side.

I am also building myself a track day Mk 2 Gti -I'm not far from Wycombe - I have also just broken a mk2 8v for spares if you need any bits.

For example I have the rubber boot you need to go around the steering universal joint, so you don't get cold feet! - let me know if you're interested and I'll send you a parts list of bits I have for sale.
