Title: Oil warning light on 16v
Post by: Rick 16v Mk2 on 16 June 2004, 11:58
Hello, I hope someone can offer some advice. At low revs on my valver there is no oil warning light. At 1200 rpm the red light flickers erratically. Above 1200rpm the light begins to flash regularly. Drop the revs and the light goes out. A pressure test showed 2.5bar at 2000rpm. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be? All help greatly appreciated.
                       Cheers, Rick.

 ;) No worries mate. Yes, I changed the sensor to no avail. I was wondering if the pressure could actually be too high?

Silly question now - is your Dipstick housing damaged ??

I've seen that with other people, and it's resulted in the dipstick going in too far and they've over filled the engine ALOT !

Hmm never thought of that dave, had a caddy at work that the engine blew cos it was overfilled.

It's a common fault on Mk2's, so often people have bodged something to fix it without thinking of the consequences ...

Can lead to either a artifcially high or low reading depending on the bodge !

Check it out

my 16v used to do that, changed both the sensors on top of the oil cooler and it was sorted.....;

Gav, yeah that's what I originally did but it didn't help. As it sorted your problem though, I might double check and make sure one of the new sensors isn't faulty. Cheers.
