Hi,
Talking to the gf's grandfather the other night, it would appear he owned one of the first 16V golfs, dealer sold, in the country, just wondering if a) it would be a Mk2 (reg. D220 ...) and b) if it would even be a GTi or not? ...am I looking in the right forum?!?
Cheers in advnace, Jay
Ps, I'm also looking for this car to show him what its like now. If anyone has any info on this car that'd be great :-)

MK2 16v didnt come in till around 1986, which might be about a D reg? they stopped making the MK1 in 1983 if that helps
-
It would indeed be a mk2, they were introduced into the uk in 1984 in 8v form and then in 1986 the 16v was launched alongside it
As for tracing it you could look on the dvla website and see if its taxed or not, that should give some indication as to whether its still on the road or not, there is also a site you can check to see if its insured but i havnt a clue what it is

Right, found some more info!
The vehicle details for D220 DWK are:
Date of Liability 01 08 2001
Date of First Registration 02 01 1987
Year of Manufacture 1987
Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1781CC
Vehicle Status Unlicensed
Vehicle Colour RED
Does anyone reconise the reg? have any idea as to where it is now, and or is it still alive?
Cheers again, Jay.

Im not 100% but I think this means the last time it was taxed or when it was last on the road or something.
May mean its toast unfortunately mate

Yup, that means it's not longer on the roads and in Golf Heaven, been garaged or one HECK of a project and SORN'd.

It may be in a field somewhere under a tarp! Waiting for a future barn finder!
