Title: special edt vw motorsport gear knob.
Post by: DAVEMARX on 01 January 2009, 13:05
A few days ago at my local srappy i came across an old mk2 with a few nice bits on it lether gear gaiter, leather handbrake cover, old school tape box and few other things but the thing i was most happy about was a leather gear knob with a white logo in it with vw motorsport.

yesturday i spent a good 5 hours going over the project posts when i stumbbled across joes 8 valve (pukka motor that man is hardcore tidy) what ever it is now im asumming he got the engine in, in the end.

Anyway i noticed he was bragging about a special edition gear knob just like mine , he said they were rare.

Just how rare are they?...........dave

Only seen 1 of these on the bay (recently so might still be up there) and the 1 in Joe's project thread.

BTW he sold his car and it recently got trashed by a kid racing down a road in a Saxo/106 or sommat and smacking into it while it was parked up on the road over night. The story of what happened is in the VW Chat section somewhere.

no probs m8 good job...how much did you spend in the end and have you ever thought about painting engines for a living?  and how did you spray the gti bages? did you spray them silver then do the writing or vissa versa?

god knows what i spent, not as much as people think. i guess i was quite lucky and was quite tight so only bought stuff when it was at the right price. yeah i don't want to paint engine for a livign, takes too long and very few people would pay for it. i'll stick to trimming.
the badges were just masked up and sprayed silver.

So your turbo 16v will see a home in the end then? Or did you sell that too? Looking forward to watching your next one.

i sold the engine to a guy who's putting it in a corrado. too much effort and not enough time for me!

i wa sunsure of what to do with the next car, i quite like the idea of keeping it under wraps for a while until i make some progress.... but getting drunk at car shows often makes me chat openly about what i've got and what i plan for it so i might start a new project section and do it right from the start!

blue, basiclly i sold the car, minus interior, wheels and a few other bits.. a few weeks later it got written off by some tool when the car was parked up... thats about all there is to say!

your next car should just be a floorpan and an interior so you can advertise your trimming business  :afro:

its not a massive secret or anything, just get bored of seeing cars at shows that you've seen in evey minute detail on the net so its quite nice to keep it back a bit and let people see it with fresh eyes.

Indeed, the "tada" aspect of shows has gone over the last few years. Keep it at it joe and look forward to seeing the pink MKIII cab with Barbie airbrushing and pink leather at edition.

Oh no, I've let the cat out of the bag!

damn you nick!

nah in all seriousness, and no offence to anyone, this isn't much of a show go-ers forum so i doubt it'd be much of a problem, and those that do go to shows from here i doubt would be negative about it as they seem to really appreciate the work that goes into something.

Wanna G60 as a base for your next project? There are usually quite a few here that go for a song, ie, around the 1000 euro mark. But they need work. And you would need to import it. BUT, pretty much guarranteed it will be rust free! Ideal base car, seeing that you would strip it anyway. P.M me if you are interested and need any help locating one.
