Title: engine conversion
Post by: amazeperformance on 15 June 2004, 16:12
Hi, New to the forum.

ive always been into golfs, especially mk2 on big bumbers and rallye headlights,  anyway i bought a K plate 1.8 carb clipper cab back in January that was an aboulute sh!tter for ?800. Needed new clutch, wheel bearings, brakes, pipes etc. List is endless also modded it abit.

17ins vortex alloys
leda coilover suspension
New mohair hood
Window tints
M3 rear lights
2x12ins 1x 8ins inbetween 2 rear seats audiobahns comps, amps etc
 will post pics soon

Planning on giving it to my girlfriend at the end of summer cos I want a skyline.

Been using it as my daily driver for a few months and the engines gotta go.  Too slow (sh!ty carb) and runs like a dog.

I'm thinkin of gettin a mk1 gti donar car as this gona be easiest to work from.  But i want areliable 150bhp on tap so a 8v/16v mk2 gti engine is gona get me their.

What i need to know is what will need changing for the different engines.  And i dont wana spend more than ?500

Cheers for readin guys....

Adam

You can get smoked rear lights for ?95 from awesome gti.

Any ideas on ease of transplants?

a 2.0 16v from a mk3 golf will give you 150bhp from standard
you can probably picking a 16v from a mk2 for less money and it'd be easier to install. simple mods could poke the power up to the 150 mark

Its gota be a mk1 or 2 gti i would have thought.  Surely the mk3 engines driveshafts are longer not to mention mounting points.
