I can't remember the aucual VW price, but will check tomorrow when I get home.

The factory shade of tint is very attractive, does anyone know how an after market 'Light' tint goes onto the OEM blue tinted windows,???, i would like this mod but to achive the OEM look and would the after market tints be too dark ???
-
evening all, i looked into getting mine tinted last summer the guy who quoted said that the mk5 hatch glass is the worse there is to do he recommends smashing the glass, kids with stones lawn mowers kicking up pebbles etc (for insurance purposes) £60 excess then arrange to have the window fitted at his place and he would tint it first. so either window out or join along one of the heater elements i declined both....

OEM ??
Optional extra manufacturing or sumin?
I too heard there quite hard to tint, thats why I'm checking out the price for the genuine products!
-
Def of OEM:-
"An original equipment manufacturer, or OEM is typically a company that uses a component made by a second company in its own product, or sells the product of the second company under its own brand. The specific meaning of the term varies in different contexts."
"OEM's are the industry's brand name auto manufacturers, such as General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Volkswagen, etc. The OEM definition in the automobile industry constitutes a federally-licensed entity required to warrant and/or guarantee their products, unlike "aftermarket" which is not legally bound to a government-dictated level of liability."
If you do a search I'm sure that TT found out what the cost of the OEM tinted glass was, as someone has asked this question once before.

had mine tinted by pentagon 2 years ago, these guys know what they are doing.
it was meant to be hard to do the rear screen, but they did an excellent job.
i got a bit of a discount, but I think it was £400 for the whole car, minus front screen of course.
I had a slightly lighter than OEM, I had light smoke, OEM is near to smoke, maybe darker.

I am led to believe that the glass is "coloured" from factory with regard to the optional rear tints - don't believe it is a film just that the glass itself is coloured.
Regards,
Gareth
-
yes thats true, it is coloured, not film.
-
why not just call your local dealer to get a price?? :undecided:
also film tint leaves a white line around the window. so would need to be taken out to tint.
-
Going to get a price today or tomoz!
Know what you mean about the line thats why I would rather the real McCoy!. And Ive heard the back window would be a tuff job to tint!
-
has no-one had aftermarket tints with a pic....
-
£146.60 for the rear tinted window.
£83.12 and £88.93 on side windows. Why different price for left and right!?
Thats for a 3 door!
-
Mine hasn't got a White line, I'll try and get pics up

Phil Mcavity had his old Blue GTI done - 5 door but looked smart - have a look for that

oh , hang on let me see, oh yeah here goes
like has been said horrid white line around edge which cannot get round unless rear screen is physically removed, personally, id buy a tinted glass rear screen and tint the rest.

fronts had carbon tint fitted aswell or uv light resistant film, legal and give it a kind of mirror'd look
-
Nice one Phil, see what is meant by the rear white line.... :undecided:
-
the reason why its there is because if you look closely at the standard windscreen, it has the dimple or dotted edge to it, cover it in film makes it look white, and you cant get round it. Replace the glass with proper Tinted glass to get best results.

mine has a bit of white line, but ive had them fitted for 2 years and its never bothered me.
