Hi, just thought I'd introduce meself. I'm Andy, mid 30's and live in Derbyshire.
Just bought an 8v mk3 in Mystic Blue (the missus calls it Purple).
I bought this as a running project as I have now given up biking after 20 yrs due to a broken neck thanks to a farmer not keeping his sheep in his fields.
I will post some pics when it's warm enough to go outside and take some.
Anyway, I don't want to bore you anymore so........hello

Welcome Mate
-
Thanks bud.

Found this pic of the car taken a few weeks back. Not really the best pic, but it's a pic all the same
It's got black 17's on in with a polished lip now.
-
welcome to the site
-
Thanks for the welcome guys.
Hope you all have a good night tonight
-
Welcome mate, I have given up riding on the road, building a track tool now. Troy

Welcome matey.

Welcome mate, I have given up riding on the road, building a track tool now. Troy
Cheers mate
I have had to give up riding alltogether with the injuries........plus you know what state all the roads are like round the peak district. That's why the golf hasn't been lowered.
-
Welcome mate,
i'm in Derby but girlfriend is at Buxton Uni so you might see a white MK3 gti every now and again. mines standard tho apart from a DTM exhaust (Which is soon going)
seen another white MK3 once in Buxton. my reg starts M905 if ya see me
Which road the sheep get ya?
-
Hi Mate,
I'll keep me eyes peeled when I'm out and about.
Sheep got me on one of the 'B' roads that joins onto the A623 between Bradwell and Tideswell, jumped out through a hole in the wall and I continued to go neck first through a dry stone wall
On the plus side, it got me 5 months off work and I am a lot better than the sheep
Completely totalled the Fireblade as well
-
Ouch!
Very nice powerful bike too! my mates bro has one. . black newish one only couple years old or so. . had the racing colours done to it! so a black and orange, looks awesome!
Golf gti gonna seem a bit slow to you then!
-
Nice, mine was a black one but a few years older than your bro's mates.
Must admit that the golf won't do over 80 in first like the blade (not that you'd want it to).
But the Golf wins hands down in comfort and keeping you dry when it's p**ing down with rain.
It's the first car I've had where you can jump in and drive up to Whitby in and not have to stop twice to try and re-aligh your spine and also return almost 45 to the gallon on the motorway (as long as your not too heavy footed).
Plus, the build quality is so good that you feel like you are in a good solid motor that'll keep you a lot safer than some of the other newer cars out there if the worst was to happen.
-
A nice bike does look cool tho!
Yeah, is a solid car and very snug to the bottom. . . drove over 500 miles this Christmas/ new year holidays and never really noticed it. :smiley:petrol seems good for a 2lt too. . .well at todays prices anyway.
-
Yeah, I was really surprised how good they are on fuel.........thought it was going to be much heavier on the fuel than it is.
Plus, as you say. the comfort is amazing for a 13 year old car (especially with the injuries). Never been in a car as comfy.
Wouldn't mind a colour concept interior for it though
-
yes mate. . . some of these new cars are so cheap and nasty inside.
was in one of them boy racer VTR saxo's the other day and it's so sh!t! wouldn't like to crash in one! eeeeeeeeek!
Got many plans for your MK3 mate?
-
Hi Mate,
Currently got the VR6 wheels back on cos it's snowed again up here in the night and the polished 17" rims don't go too well with salt.
I've got M3 rear lights, put some chrome bits inside (heater controls, gear knob & surround, door handles & heater vents) & some dial faces.
Like yourself, I have a DTM back box on as it looks so much better than the standard.
Engine is standard apart from a K&N 57i with heat shield & a rohr pipe.
Also put the loom in for the front fog lights to work.
Oh, and the angel eyes and grill as you can see on the pics.
The missus is currently using it as well, but as soon as she gets a new car again I'll look into lowering it (if the roads get any better round here that is!!!!!)
Bodywork wise, the car aint too bad but could do with getting some better condition doors or if anyone knows a good bodywork guy up this way who can match up Mystic blue, I'll get it booked in.
Got plans for yours?
-
cool stuff mate.
Not got many plans at the moment, only to iron a few problems out and to make her look even more in perfect condition.
Need a new middle box and was gonna change the DTM exhaust but might keep that on.
Also need to sort ABS too..
Just want to get her looking perfect at the momnet. . brand new chrome badges, couple cosmetic bits but nothing big. then get the engine looking lovely so you could eat your dinner off it!
-
I know what you mean,
I guess it comes from my biking days where you can see the engine more that my missus wonders why I spend so much time under the bonnet changing all the rusted bolts with either stainless or nickel plated ones.
The bits I have changed are purely to replace bits that were either knackered or were not up to scratch.
The heater grilles were all broken and the gear gaitor looked llike it had got 10yr old soup on it that wouldn't come off
The grill was really badly stone chipped when I bought the car so it had to be replaced ASAP and the lights came up at the right money so I put those on.
The car is terrible at this time of year as well cos it looks so diryt as soon as you go out in it so it has a wash after every run at the mo to keep the salt away.
As with any motor I have, I don't think I'll ever be satisfied with it untill all the bad parts have been replaced.
Going to look around for a second hand rocker cover to get colour matched to the car next.
-
yeah... its great when its all looking and working sweet! flushed my radiator out today and now if it didn't have anti-freeze in it you could drink from it!
i know what your saying about it looking dirty all the time. . . mine's white too! gonna give her a clean in the morning even if i do freeze!!
-
I'll be doing the same mate,
It's my last day off work so I'll spend it doing what I enjoy the most I think.........keeping the car as clean as possible
Keep putting layer after layer of wax on the bottom of the doors and around the arches just to make sure.
The weather is not an issue......if I want to do it, it'll get done.
If it stays dry as well, I'll treat it to a hoovering.
The neighbours think I'm mad but they have a 53 plate Astra Active thats going rusty everywhere cos it's never cleaned so who's the real mad one!!
You got the ABS working yet??
-
put it off for about an hour this morning as it looked way to cold. . .
got out there in the end and gave her a good going over (the car that is)
noticed two very small dents tho in the passenger door which p**sed me right off!! supermarket parking for sure!!
she did look so nice after tho and got great fun taking her for a spin. . even better when i filled up with petrol and it was 82.9!!!
-
Yeah, the petrol prices are looking more & more favourable....best make the most of it before Mr. Brown twigs eh.
Gave mine the works today inside and out regardless of the weather...........never seen so much not produced from one nose!!!
I hate it when you spot something wrong with he car, even though nobody else would notice, it really gets to me.
Ordered some caliper paint this afternoon so I'll get that done over the winter before I put the posh wheels back on.
-
Yeah. . i thought 85.9 was gonna be it but it keeps getting better, foe now anyway.
yeah, only noticed one dent til i took a step backed and saw the second. most people wont notice but i know now!
girlfriend was like. . what you talking about. . nothing there!
yeah... gonna sort my calipers too. what you doing them?
oh, ABS hopefully get looked at this week.
-
Bought a kit for the calipers off fleabay.
Just doing them in black cos I don't want them to look like something they're not and they will look better than the rusty colour that they are at the mo.
Had to replace the offside ABS sensor on mine... apparently they're quite a common fault but it was only the dashboard light that was coming on and not locking up brakes.
-
Ah cool, could do with doing mine.
Yeah. . read around on here and quite a few ABS lights coming on and just need sensors changing but nothing about anyones locking up!
Hopefully grarage can help later this week, :undecided:
-
Yeah,
They should be able to plug it in and tell you straight away what's wrong with it.
Hopefully it'll not be anything expensive.
I'll let you know how I get on with the ebay kit for painting the calipers but I think I'll leave it until it's above -8 degrees before I do them
-
Welcome buddy :)
Looks like a nice motor :)
-
Cheers Mate,
Still a long way to go yet before it's anything like some of the motors on this forum but I'll just keep going as the funds (and missus) allow.
-
welcome mate, f**king sheep send its body to wales they will take care of it
-
