Anyone know if there is any difference between Texaco's Super unleaded petrol and Optimax? Both are ron 98, but which is best for my 16valver? ::) ;D

By the way wot do u guys think of the car? Getting rid of red line on grill and indicators are going to smoked. Any other suggestions? ???

the red line makes it look more beefy 8)
-
Its already gone, I much prefer it without ;D
-
not that techy but optimax is the sh!t when it comes down to fueling performance cars 8)
-
If there both 98 ron, there probabkly ain't much dfference between them. But i think optimax is the best
-
The man has a point
-
all your looking for is the 98RON, the extra additives in Optimax can be substituted by throwing a bottle of injector cleaner in every now & again
-
I was wondering the same thing a few months ago, went on Shell's website & they claim Optimax is a touch higher than 98 ron.
I don't think they could claim somthing that was'nt true cos that'd be false advertising & they would be f**ked for it.

just put it this way if your owners manual says that the car can run on normal 95 octane..... without any damage then just run it on 95 octane it normaly says if 95 ron is put in instead of 98 slight power decrease may be noticed! more like fcuk all difference!
what happens is that if the 95 octane petrol starts pinking then the knock sensor advances and retards the ignition timming automaticly!
but it does it that fast you wont know if it is pinking or not! because the knock sensor is always listening to the cylinders!
but if the maunal says it can be run of 95 then runing it on 95 will not cause it to pink and if it doesnt pink you wont loose and power!
most people think the more octane the faster it goes!
wrong......... the more octane the less it will pink!
but only high boosted turbos need high octane! because the 95 octane is to low and causes pre ignition pinking which is the sound of the piston crowns warping this is because the petrol has self ignited at tdc just before the spark does it!
basicly it acts like a diesel!
if pinking continues then holes will be made in the pistons!
i hope this settles most questions related to octane!
-
i have used optimax in the vr6 which has automatic timming and 2 knock sensors.......and i noticed no difference!........
-
your timing is out
the 16v ECU can only advance/retard so much
-
id stick to one type of fuel and set the timing from that - then your sorted
i found running my car on LRP, BP Ultimate & Shell SUL caused all sorts of timing probs even though they are all 97RON
so now i just use LRP as its the cheapest, set the timing and left it at that - hasnt skipped a beat since
-
i dont know if i ve said this but
the octane rating in petrol if not used quickly..... ie optimax not many people use it, the rating drops if its stored too long...... how long this is i dont know.....
but thats probibly the case........
old optimax will have less octane then the fresh daily delivered supermarket petrol!
i could be wrong but if timmings bang on then i guess this is the case as if there was something wrong with your hall sender or ignition module then it would show up on the supermarket petrol...........
