in the time you wrote the thread you could have searched, gone to the shops bought some and applied it. And maybe squeezed a cup'o'tea in there somewhere!

I use kiwi liquid boot polish from Tesco, but thinking of trying some other stuff.
For shows and giving them a quick blackening that looks nice but only lasts a couple days I go over them with autoglym vinyl and rubber care.
Got some linseed in the garage so I think I'll try that next time.

well i did do a search!! and have got certain ideas but none seem to be as good as the stuff i was using before, would shine like new and would repel water and dirt for about a month! ill take a pic of the bottle later see if anyone knows where i could get it.

a lot of people also said that they used one of the following:
Linseed oil which u can get from bnq [This lasts a while a few months evidently]
Shoe polish [ only lasts a few weeks but is the easiest to apply]
Heating the plastic up [hardest to get right but lasts for a very long time]

If your trims really faded try using a heat gun.
Don't know if any of you guys have tried it but it worked for me.
-
Check out G-Techniq c4 nano tech trim restorer. Not c that cheap for a 15ml bottle but works wonders and last for up to 2 years. I reviewed this product on SW cruise website.
Just google G-Techniq

i just did mine with turtle wax black in a flash and they look mint
also have used ag bumper care , good too
-
I would stay away from heat guns on plastic bumpers. your burning the plastic slightly so it goes black again.
-
yea iv heard you can only heat it a couple of times before it looks crap for good!

yea only so much heating you can do before the plastic starts to warp, generally its easier with either a wax which can be a bit pricy or some strange alternative like linseed oil or something simular.
People have even used penut butter before to restore it, esentially it was from the oil inside the peanut butter.

not the sort of thing to do to a slightly faded bumper - but the one on my "OLF" was taking the michael.
can yousee where the wax oil from the tailgate has protected the bumper, so to keep them black from new they need oiling protecting regularly

I used to use 'armor-all' spray on black plastic bumpers and they always looked ace,
it was good for all plastics inside and out - bumpers, dash and window seals :)
I'll give that a go now I've got the golf - if a) it's still available and b) the weather ever improves!!
