Dear all,
I am looking for help with a small problem I have with my 92 8v digifant.
The car is standard under the bonnet apart form a performance filter. It appears that the vacuum pipes that normally run to the filter have been sealed up (not sure how successfully).
My problem is that the car judders quite violently at low engine speed in first gear. It seems a lot better when I get the car into second but there is a slight judder under acceleration.
However I can pull away fine and the car behaves very well in all other circumstances.
Could this be a leak from the vacuum pipes, or is it more a tuning issue?
Thanks for any help.
Regards

maybe the idle is set a little low, could try and turn it up abit. any leaks in the vacuum system will lead to poor idle for sure maybe worth getting hold of a standard airbox?

Open the bonnet and rock the engine backwards and forwards, sounds like the front engine mount is sh****d!!!
This is a classic Mk2 problem, replace it with a solid/vibratechnics on if you are giving the car some beans all the time, if not standard one is fine (genuine one will last longer....).

If you can rock it with your hands, its seriously boned. A better way to test is to have someone raise the clutch with the handbrake on, then you can observe and movement in the engine.

i had the same problem with engine judder in 1st gear..had to replace the mounts,i did not get the good vibratechnic 1s out of my budget lol but the 1 i got are good enough for now

Clutch plate warped? When was the clutch last replaced?

Thanks to one and all I am almost certain that the problem is the front mount.
Vibra technics recommend or not?
For something like mount I was going to go for the stock VW item if available?
Any views much appreciated.

Stock. Dont waste your money. If your engine is stock then thats the route to follow. Stock all the way.

I had a similar problem on my digi when the mixture was way too lean, it wasnt a constant problem but when driving at a constant speed it would sometimes kangaroo along, a burst of right foot usually sorted it tho.

Thanks I will go the stock route.
Excessive movement is how much. There will for sure be a little. And is it worth replacing rear mounts while I'm at it.
I don't think that it is the mixture but will prob go for a re tune once ready.
I am passing the car to her i doors as a daily runner. She will be stepping back 12 years from current car.
If there is a car this could work with it is a Mk 2!
Thanks

GSF sell too types of mount one for £12.00 and one for £26.00.
I read on one of the threads to fit more expensive one however it appears that the more expensive is for the earlier cars.
Any thoughts much appreciated.

you use the cheap bonded rubber front and gearbox mounts, listed for the 1.3. for the rear engine mount use the 16v/g60 more expensive one, but replace that one last, usually its the box and front mounts that go :)
