As most of you know chaps I have been searching for a while for an R32, given the recent prices....this car has been on and off ebay several times......would any of you go for this "immaculate" 08?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2008-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-R32-BLUE_W0QQitemZ250346610117QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item250346610117&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2008-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-R32-BLUE_W0QQitemZ250346610117QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item250346610117&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A2%7C65%3A7%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318)
I mean, look at the "Buy It Now" price....read the text and let me know if you would take a chance on buying something with this history...what are the downsides? If something seems to good to be true...it generally is always too good to be true...

something about a barge pole and not touching comes to mind. you can get something similar from a dealer.
http://www.beadles.co.uk/volkswagen/used-cars/view/52420/Volkswagen-Golf-R32-3.2-V6-250PS
3 grand more but i'm sure they can come down in price

Woffle the one you've just highlighted is an 06 model...and the one at beadles is £3.5k dearer!
there are loads out there, I know and I would probably get my head stoved in and my collection of Gibson guitars thrown into the street behind me if I did go for it anyway
...women, cant live with them.....can't live...with them
Seriously though...if I went for this car...mad though I may be.... what paperwork etc should i be seeking to ensure is present? I clearly would get the car inspected and I would want to verify provenance, previous owner, check out the story etc etc etc...any advice fellow dubbers?
-
Don't know the legalities here.... but if was stolen with keys, and recovered with no damage then why was it not returned to the owner after the police had finished with their checks??
Just a thought.
-
Perhaps they had already paid out????
in which case the car must have been away for a while then...in a lock up/ hidden?
yep...dodgy for sure.
-
the old saying goes- if it seems too good to be true, it usually is. it would be the insurance companys' property, why arn't they selling it? in todays climate you could get one with a proper history for not a lot more, it would be a nightmare tryng to sell it on in the future. not worth the risk imo.
-
as long as it is hpi clear and mechanically sound there is no reason not to snap up what is an absolute bargain imo. Mmmmm tempting :)
-
tempting it is...and if the seller doesnt provide the information re the previous owner, the insurance company and all the necessary legal paper work then any one interested would just walk away.
It sounds like tracing the real story would be easy..
and you would not need to mention this to any prosepective owner in the future, would you? i mean its not been in an accident...its not damaged, it was only pinched by some grubby little baw bag in a situation similar to the Stolen Ed30 Thread....
Its up for grabs for anyone who has the cash and the bottle to go for it...i will ponder, debate and probably decide to play safe and not go for it...(for real reason, see reference to woman above)...

Got to say I agree with the above comment. Why would it be a nightmate to sell on in the futre? If its HPI clear then no one is going to know are they. If you can get all the paper together and get a straight story then I cant see the problem. If anyone has the nuts to go for this they migth be getting bargin . . . who knows. Will need a PROPER REAL GOOD check over though.

If the car was stolen and the insurance company paid out before it was recovered then they would of given the policyholder the chance to buy it back. If they decided not to then the insurance company would of sold the car on to a salvage company, generally for a big loss.
You have the potential for a good deal here, but. I would arrange for the meeting to be in a public place or at the sellers business premises (if its not a business walk away). They should have the salvage receipt and documentation from the insurance company including the V5 and all supporting documentation for the car, the insurance co would of insisted on this from the policyholder.
Get the car checked over from the AA, confirm its history with HPI and also call the selling insurance company and confirm they sold the salvage to this company. If its all green you will get yourself a cheap car.
-
Ok have mailed the seller requesting the insurance details and the previous owner details...they should in theory have NO issue with providing this. If they do then I may take it forward, if they dont then it shouts loud and proud that there is an issue with the sale.
-
i was looking into this, they guy seems OK but wouldnt take a PX, so suggests its not at a garage.
-
the thing that gets me about it, Why would you tell anyone its been stolen recovered if its not registered ? Is he just trying for someone to buy it without hpi it and just go off is word, you would be amazed at how many people do out there.
i was under the impression the insurance company paided out after 6 weeks so if it has been missing that long it must have some sort of history. Does anybody know what V car is ? ive seen cars with this advertised before but not quite sure what it is. Could it be hpi clear and on V car ?
I would not buy that unless you could get it for a lot cheaperthan that. It may have only 4500 miles but it could have been stolen with only 500 on and so its had 4000 miles of abuse and neglect.
-
What's the harm in going and checking it out???
You'll be able to make a better judgement of the seller too if you fire a few questions face to face rather than E-Mailing him and letting him have a prepared response.
Get yer shoes on and take a look!!!
-
the thing is he won't pass on either the insurance company or the previous owners details........ Run run away everyone
-
lol good luck to him selling that then
Do what these people are doing and RUN AWAY !!!!

there's been
mugs people bidding on this already!
-
have you seen his other auctions? The Merc looks nice, however the story is about as believable as some bloke in a sleigh giving out presents around the world in 24 hours!
-
"YET AGAIN MY UNCLE WENT OUT LAST MARCH & BOUGHT MY AUNT ANOTHER CAR WHICH HAS SPENT MOST OF THE YEAR PARKED IN THE GARAGE AS THEY SPEND MOST OF THE TIME IN THE WARMER PARTS OF THE WORLD
AND AGAIN WE HAVE GOT TO THE END OF THE YEAR AND THEY HAVE DECIDED THAT THEY DONT REALY NEED IT (ALTHOUGH I BET COME MARCH HE WILL DO THE SAME THING AS HE HAS THE LAST 3 YEARS AND BUY ANOTHER ONE)"
Is this guy for real !? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2008-MERCEDES-C220-SPORT-CDI-A-BLACK_W0QQitemZ250345719687QQihZ015QQcategoryZ9855QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Stay as far away as possible I think . .
-
the merc is also to good to be true, he must be printing his own hpi reports. RUN AWAY! writes a nice story though  he's got a lot of cars for sale if he's not a dealer as well.

Walk away and keep walking.
Unless he is prepared to prove the story given it, doesn't really ring true to me. As I understand it this car should be recorded by HPI (CAT-X) as the insurance company, apparently, have paid out on it as a total loss.
Category X - A vehicle which is not listed as being damaged on the HPI register, or one which may have very little damage. Often these are vehicles that have been stolen and then recovered.
In any case his "buy it now" price isn't that cheap given that we have been discussing new R32's (without the , err, questionable history) for £18K...
I would say its worth about where the bids are now given the history and the state of the car market.
I would go to a dealer, ignore the sticker price and start haggling at around 20% less... and tell the dealer that it is unreasonable for him to expect to make a margin on both the car he's selling and the px he's taking from you...
-
All wise words mateys...there was a time on fleebay you could contact other bidders (I may be mistaken) dunno if its possible to warn these potential suckers that this dude is seriously dodgy...his reputation seems intact however, .... is it possible to fabricate a repuation? probably yes like everything else, but if he did any kind of dodgy deal previously then surely someone would have cried foul before now?
I shall avoid this tweenie forthwith, he says Orpinton, but that is a million miles (well it could as well be) from me in Glasgow. If he were closer I would go there and check out all the details personally.
-
i'm around the corner from orpington...
-
so if the paperwork isnt all in order, does this still make the ACTUAL car a lemon??!!
also is very overpriced now ive been looking around a lil more!!!

If the guy isn't prepared to backup the story with hard facts, names, numbers and documents then it is most certainly a lemon

Where I work we have a lease scheme and this same thing happend where by the chap had the keys to his car stolen form his locker whilst at the gym!
Because it was a lease he basically had another car allocated to him and then the insurance sort the car out with the lease firm and go from there, hence why he would not off been offered to buy the car back at a reduced price!
Definitely worth checking out and seeing if you can find who the car was originally registered too, and if it is a lease car you could always call them and speak to them about it!
Just a thought.....
-
regarding the ebay side of it, if you click his history and then the member name of the person who brought from him, you can hit the "contact member" button and email them.
also this seller has been on ebay for 4 years, its pretty hard to fake 4 years worth of positive feedback.
but then not worth he risk imo.
-
A quick search of the internet domain name from the ebay advert, unit-11.com, shows the owner of the domain name is as below. Although they are not necessarily the actual seller, but interesting its a Motor Co.
R Parker
Parker Motor Co
PO Box 5
Sheffield
S7 1XD

jonesgti you cannot seriously have found a cheaper 08, this is £15.5k!
Interesting that the sellers name is Par, signs his emails as joe and states that it is cat x and he has all certificates, I asked for names of insurance company and previous owners, said that contractually he can't. It could be legit....bobo if you are bored, intrigued or have a twisted sense of humour go have a look.......
-
I highly doubt that R Parker is the seller as Orpington is not in Sheffield. It isnt a million miles away from me. But I don't want to go and see it in case I buy it lol
-
12,100 and going up.
no golfclubs....i havnt found a cheaper 08! but ive found cheaper 57's 06's 56's for about a grand cheaper 10k miles and buckets and satnav and dsg!!
-
Jonesgti...   gimme gimme gimme   just what I am after...none of that double declutching manual shift stick, throw back to Henry fords day stuff.....lol...
Have to admit the seller here seems more plausible...but that could be a very good act, you never know at all.
If he took trade ins and offered me circa 10k I would probably risk it,..however I am largely still getting rear ended up here in the North by Stealers in denial...its gonna be a cold hard winter coming for these tosspots.
Just found this http://www.parklane4x4.co.uk/13515/stock.htm (http://www.parklane4x4.co.uk/13515/stock.htm)
08 r32 for £15.9k

Good luck with finding an R32... much better than the standard GTI, although if I had to choose between the Ed30 and an R32 with current prices, I'd still go for the R32... the Ed30 modified is a beast however. I was in the R32 yesterday and decided to take off quickly - limiting the revs to 3k rpm though as its still being run in with only 100 miles on the clock - it was so nice not to have any wheelspin despite the fact its shod with the crappy Dunlop ShyteMax tyres. In my Edition 30, even a limited take off like that would have sent the fronts spinning - although with a few more mods like Quaife LSD and engine mounts, that will be very limited. I have good Michelin Pilot Sports on the Ed30 also.
