Title: Aldi headunit
Post by: bondbill2k2 on 22 December 2008, 17:01
Im almost ashamed to say i brought one

...Well got one for christmas as i just wanted a headunit cheapo style for time being as all i previously had was a tape player and the worst radio ever.

Took about 2mins to swap steros over altho i dont have a perminant live (goes off when i remove key) But from what i can see i believe i need to swap the red and yellow switched and perm's around on the iso?

Either way all works beside that, quality aint bad (but i do only have some stock speakers in the dash atm, will be upgrading next month to comp set in doors)
Usb player, cd player, aux in on front, card reader. Decent eq's, 4x40w output and dont look THAT bad

For only £30 tho who can complain?

Might paint surround on it black so doesnt look so bad for the time being.

I've been tempted by one of these for the camper. Has it got pre outs for an amp?

Im a manager at Aldi, all the stuff seems alright but you only get a 30 day in store warranty, anything after you have to phone the helpline number.
Just a little warning all.....

A friend of mine has a headunit he got in Lidl in his Colt. Doesn't look great but has aux in, usb slot and bluetooth and works pretty damn well.

As the aldi manager quoted, you gota b careful when buying electrical goods from places like aldi n lidl as the warranties are mainly with suppliers most the time.

Otherwise, you are along the right lines of information. If you just plugged the new unit str8 into your golf and it powered up without tampering with any of the wiring, you'l find you do have both a permanent and switched LIVE, only with vauxhalls and VW's theyr always the otherway around so you just gota switch the 2 lives around...red to yellow and vice versa.
Quite nice for a cheapy unit though i must say so myself. Sorta looks like a JVC type design. Who was it made by...sumat like "tevion" or sumink??
