dash cost me ?45 from the scrappy. I pulled it out of a 98% complete mk3 driver. took the dials, stalks, matrix. the lot basically. the only bits that were missing were the ashtray that I blagged from another scrappy and the glovebox handle. I had to buy those new from VW. I then told the stalks for ?10.
Took me about 6 weeks on and off over xmas on my drive. about 6 days solid work though. the cutting alone took me a day. The wiring is easy enough. they're all the same colours. bolt in the new matrix so the controls work. weld in the support bar. I used the mk2 clocks for now cos I was getting TT ones anyway, plus it was almost impossible cos mine was a k-jet mk2.

did you have any prior knowledge of doin that dash conversion?
or did you jus get stuck in and do it yourself?

yeah I did everything apart from the welding of the support bar. Took me 3 hours to remove the mk3 dash in the scrapyard seeing as I'd never removed anything in a mk3 before. I just looked for screws and pulled bits off. Took me another 2/3 hours to remove the mk2's dash. then plonk it in and start cutting it down so it fits.
I read 2 articles on it on the net, but both did things in a different way. in the end I did it another way still!
I just got stuck in. It's not perfect yet, but I'm hoping the mk4 cab one, that is exactly the same, but has a different texture to it will be spot on. there's still a gap round where it meets the screen and small holes down the sides where I overcut them. Also the screen blower isn't completely airtight. I plan to fibreglass a section to fix that.
I'll upload those pics and link to them tomorrow. I can't be assed right now.
