Title: Decided i want an R32 now :D
Post by: Jkctr on 20 December 2008, 09:08
After longing after a GTI edition 30 i have decided to go for the R32. It seems crazy not to really! I can pick one up for around £17,000 or less, whereas the edition 30 i want is around £22,000! As keen as i am on getting an ED30 and upping power to the 300bhp mark, i cant see the point as FWD just isnt designed to cope with that, especially not in this wet and icy winter at the moment!
I sold the CTR the other week and am now on the look out!

Can anyone point to a good R32 site so i can get an idea of mods available (power, cosmetic and audio) and to get an idea of what to look out for.

Cheers

R32oc.com I am an ex r32 owner and I hope you have deep pockets to get it close to 300bhp

Maybe in a few years but im not after 300bhp. I will happy with whatever comes out after induction, exhaust and a map (im guessing around 15-20 bhp tops)

Im more keen on the 3.2 V6 noise, awd (or 4motion/haldex) and comfort (im hoping for some recaros) as well as the extras over the GTi these have (or seem to in the second hand market anyway i.e. xenons, satnav etc)

I can see 260-270 bhp being much more usable than a gti ed30 with 300 bhp regardless of weather, even if it would be less fun

I've got an Ed30 with around 320bhp... when the roads are dry its awesome and its not too bad even when the roads are damp/wet although you do have to be careful.   I've just come back from Colchester VW this morning where I picked up a brand new R32 for the wife    Its got 37 miles on the clock and the following options:

Xenons - they are standard but have to mention them as not everyone knows
Recaro Leather seats
Touch Screen Sat Nav
5-Door
Pearlescent Blue - I wouldn't consider the R32 in any other colour
Winter Pack
Rear Parking Sensors
Cruise Control - installed by the dealer and paid for separately @ £150 all in
Manual - not an option, but just to let you know its not DSG

Excellent price!

Key things for me are:

Xenons (even though they are standard on the R32)
3 door
DSG
Color not important
Leather recaros would be lovely and anything else is a bonus!

If the right ED30 came along i would defo consider it, i just now how much my 220bhp ctr struggled to get the power down in anything other than bone dry roads!

The problem with the ED30 is i obly want a 3 door in white, of which there is only one for sale on the net at £23k

Ring Colchester VW on 01206 852022 and ask for Daryl - say Nadeem gave you his number.  They can source a car from anywhere in their group for less than other dealers as VW have given them a lot of R32s to sell.  They wanted £22,750 for my R32 (worth £29.5k list price).  They are part of the Inchcape Group, have the most R32s available and do the deepest discounts.  My local dealer couldn't match them in any way as they are smaller.

I've been really tempted to get an R32 too. Some of the prices in Northern Ireland are too low not to buy! The only problem is that I can't afford it unless I manage to sell my current mk5, which doesn't seem likely to be honest. The insurance bump would be pretty bad for me too since I'm only 20. Decisions decisions  :lipsrsealed:

As nice as R32s are it's a shame you can't find a Ed30 for the right money..  At the end of the day it all depends what you are after mate. If it's the whole package and the sound you want, then R32 will be bang on. If it's a jump up in performance over you CTR that you want, then it's not. As I would say your old CTR would of been slightly quicker..
I know what you mean about the crap weather and roads though mate and 4WD would be nice. But the ED30 defo makes up for it when it's dry..

Yeah im aware of the little power increase, but with the awd and v6 im sure it sound quicker and also be easier to make it go fast, which is what im after!
The CTR will be quicker when driven at 100% but the R32 will require much less effort and give back more rewards (i.e. noise)

Hi mate, Fellow ex CTR owner and now an R32 owner!

My CTR was definately the most enjoyable car I have ever owned! But I hav ejust bought an 08 R32, 5 door, leather with a few extras for £17k from a dealers! There are lots and lots of very very good deals out there, just keep looking and haggling!

In terms of performance I would say my CTr was quicker (K-Pro, Gruppe M among a few things ) but the drive of the R32 is soooo much better. I have 2 kids so its much easier (5 doors) and the ride is a hell of a lot more comfier. Plus then the 4WD.

To summarise, CTR excellent car, great fun, great performance

R32 much better handling, better "feel", better comfort, just all round better than my CTR (even though I still miss it!)

Thank you for that mate, good to hear your happy with the change

I have no doubt my ctr will have been quicker than a standard R32 but im sure ill add a few goodies during ownership. I do doubt the ctr was quicker in anything other than perfect dry weather though (which we dont get often anyway lol)

Need to wait to see how my job pans out over the next few weeks before i decide to do it 100%

If the job comes through though i will be getting one
