Sorry, but I am so confused!
When does the original Golf Mk1 become a Mk2? Is it when VW change some of the engine and update it, but still leaving the body style the same?
I thought the Mk1 was just that and then the Mk2 was the next style that came out (the one that doesn't have a cabriolet version).
Sorry for sounding like a such a eejit!

1983 saw the end of the mk1, by this time a complete new car was released as a mk2 and the only thing being the same as a mk1 at that point was the running gear.

From '83 onwards, think thats a B plate! the mk2 becomes bigger than the mk1

83 is a. late mk1's are a reg and early mk2's are a reg. i owned an a reg mk2 registered in feburauary ??? 1983

And what a beut it was, one of the only reasons you know how to fix a golf!! ;)
