Smoke… HELP!
« on: 28 July 2022, 14:52 »
Hi all,

I’ve seeing this bluish smoke on startup occasionally.

Only occurs after it’s been sat for a while - doesn’t happen when idling or driving.

Mods as follows:
Stage 1 mapped
Pikey R600 mod
forge turbo blanket
Centre res delete
Clubsport Backbox

I’m still on the original IS20 and stock downpipe. On 33000 miles

Any ideas of causes/fix/cost? Help appreciated

Valve stem oil seals seems most likely. They should be able to be changed without removing the head.

Reckon it is something I can do at home? I’m quite handy and have plenty of garage space if I move things around.

Quite possibly but first of all you need to be sure it is the issue. Well worth getting a decent indie to diagnose first?

I wouldn't be too worried about a puff of smoke on startup. If it smokes under acceleration once warmed up then I'd be a bit more concerned. In the meantime keep an eye on the oil level.

Im pretty sure to replace the valve stem seals is a camshaft out job on these engines, so unless your really handy its not something id advise attempting on your drive.

Have you checked the EGR Valve?
