Had approx 150 mile drive today at “running in” pace. According to We Connect 51.3 mpg Well pleased!
-
I managed 40 mpg this morning which involved much restraint! And I wasn’t even stuck behind a dawdling OAP. Must be the high ambient temps making the engines run leaner than a Conservative council’s public expenditure budget.

Thats extremely impressive. What version do you have and what transmission?

I too have noticed a difference in average MPG between Winter and Summer. And it seems to change like I've flicked a switch. Makes me wonder if the ECU is programed to switch between maps on a pre-determined date?
-
My GTI managed 46mpg on a motorway run the other day.
I won't say that my previous GTD probably would have done 60mpg but
46 is pretty good I thought.

Transmission is DSG.

Definitely seeing better economy in the hot weather. I’m getting early 40s rather than late 30s on my morning commute
-
Temperature always makes a huge difference. On my way into work my current R hit 45mpg.
-
Its probably less optimal combustion and more to do with air density causing drag...
Air is 20% more dense at 0C than at 30C... thats a lot of drag.
In fact, that probably almost aligns with the difference in fuel economy...
-
My work commute is 40 miles motorway a road and town I can get 45 fairly easily without really trying on quiet morning run to work this time of year have had 52 really trying. Driving back enthusiastically and in traffic 38 is about where it usually is dsg performance dsg.
Very economical for the performance you get imo.

I don't doubt that for a second. But it doesn't explain why my average MPG changes noticeably each year like a switch has been flicked - it's not a gradual transition. I'm still going with the Winter and Summer maps.

Could it be due to different seasonality blends of petrol?
With diesel, it’s widely known that there are different summer and winter blends. In some countries the formulation of petrol changes depending on the season. If this also the case in the UK, then that might be the reason for the step change in mpg if that step change coincides with the switchover from one season’s fuel type / formulation to another.

We need decent MPG’s at present, filled up with just under 50 litres yesterday at £141.9 (Tesco Momentum)
What the hell is going on with fuel prices?
-
£1.41. Wow. That’s crackers. If it goes over £1.50 I’ll just start pushing the car around.

Just under 3 Sterling a litre? That sounds way too much.
Unfortunately nobody sells high octane fuel here anymore so 95 will have to do.
-
That’s cheaper than 10 years ago. I bet you’re earning more than you were then.

I read it as it cost 141.90 pounds to fill up. Nearly fell off my chair..

Of course! That's probably it. Now why didn't I think of that? (Don't answer)
Edit: Not only can I not think straight, seems I also can't quote other posts!

From DEFRA:
The UK has a moderate climate and temperature variations between summer and winter are relatively small when compared with continental Europe. As a result, the need for additives to counteract the effects of changes in the physical environment on the properties of petrol is low, with changes in the Reid Vapour Pressure (RVP)to meet the requirements ofBS EN 228 being the primary driver ofseasonal differences in fuel composition. While winter and summer minimum and maximum values for RVP are specified within BS EN 228:2012, the range of values is sufficiently broad such that the transition from 'summer petrol' to ‘winter petrol’ can be managed using intermediate blends. The triggers that signal the transition from one blend to another have not been clearly identified and in some cases are driven by customer requirements. However, the following provides a simplification for the transition dates:
•Summer: 1st June –31st August;
•Winter: 16th October –15th April
•Intermediate: 16th April –31st May and 1st September –15th October.
-
Love it how winter is twice as long as summer
-
Thanks, Fred. I expect our petrol in Aus probably has great variances in line with our wider climate extremes.

Welcome to England lol

Do they account for our Manchester goodness (AKA Rain)!!!
I'm really impressed with my Clubsport I was on 46mpg on a run down to Solihull from Manc the other day it dipped to a 44mpg overall after a quick blast from the M6 toll booths. 300bhp and 44 mpg is astonishing.
Overall from start I've averaged 36.9mpg according to We Connect and 35.4 calculated which I consider pretty good too and in line with an already well run previous Golf. I suspect this will increase over time with longer journeys again.

In real terms I’m earning far less now than then.
Hence I still give a stuff how much fuel costs!

My number presentation is nearly as bad as my grammar!
£1.419 (?) 141.9 ppl (?) or £1.42 rounded up which is easier to decipher

I have 150 ps dsg etsi, and dash was saying nearly 65mp3 going down a1 on cruise. Made me wonder if it was telling lies.
