The manual GTi had a recent new clutch fitted in response to the groaning/Owl "Hoo" sound being made when engaging 1st and reverse gear and setting off. Replaced were the clutch and throw out bearing. The fly wheel was not replaced. Should it have been?
The car has started making a quieter noise on setting off now but familiar to the groan "Hoo" noise.
