Possible return to a Gti!!
« on: 08 January 2025, 16:00 »
Afternoon all, I haven't been on this forum since I sold my 7.5 Gti PP 3 years ago. Glad to see all the usual suspects still typing away but its defo a bit quieter these days.

After watching the usual Uptube reviews I find myself once again pricing up a Gti in the form of a Clubsport. The Mk 8 did nothing for me but they seem to have tidied it up a bit and resolved the interior issues.
I wont bore you with the spec I'm looking at but all the usual stuff (19 alloys, DCC, etc).

Annyway, I'm noticing two main things.
Price - my 2019 PP, was well spec'd and with a £6k discount was £29.5k. The Clubsport I've spec'd is coming in at £41k with a £6800 discount from DtD. A big increase in 6 years but such is life a suppose.
The other thing is paint colour options. Everyone has they're own thoughts on this but the choice is crap!! Currently looking at Kings Red or Moonstone but nothing really jumping out.

Finally the only reason I sold my Gti was its valuekept increasing. I got £26.5k after owning it 21/2 years. Then bought M340d, kept it 8 months and cost £1k. Unfortunately those days gone.

Currently have a 2021 Audi S3 Vorsprung in Tango red. Great car which I really like but as per the start of this neverending story its not a Gti and they keep drawing me back.
Anyway, glad to see your all still here and will bore you no more.

Agree re colours..... Atlantic Blue has always been my fav on performance Golfs. Pity not available now. If was ordering a new one, I'd prob go for one of the greys as I prefer under the radar, a bit. Red and white probably the best 'stand out' colours.

I just think there's not much choice.
My previous Gtis's were
2006 Mk5, Reflex Silver
2014 Mk7, Tornado Red
2016 Mk7 Gtd, Carbon grey
2019 Mk7.5, Indiym grey.

Fancied something different but not a white lover, had black and as most, too hard to look after. I like blues especially Atlantic blue but thats gone.
Will prob go red again.

On separate note, been playing catch-up reading through the Mk8 forum but think I've depressed myself with the price increases and the VED increase coming on 1st April!!

Be aware that current Kings Red is not that top-notch Tornado Red

That'll be the deal done then!!

Went with DtD who are giving a discount of approx. £6800.
They also mentioned the VED increase on 1st April but obviously no way around that on factory order.
Looking at approx 6 months but thankfully I'm used to that now and no great hurry.

Send enquiries to 3 local VW garages.
One phoned and said not interested in giving big discounts, one didn't reply and another were very good trying to match but still £1800 more.

Is 6 months a realistic wait time at the mo then?

I think it might depend on the spec that you go for, although not sure how true that is. I've gone for the pano roof which Ive read somewhere can delay things. DtD quoted me 5 months, but the dealer was confident it would be sooner. I was hoping before end of March to save on the tax but probably will be April. Ive factored in the extra cost so no biggie to get the car I want.

Thanks, that doesn't sound too bad then. And, as you say, spec you want.

Hello everyone. I also have not been on this forum for over 4 years now. Had a 7.5pp GTi and hated the mk8 when it came out. Did not like the front end of it, hated the headlights and did not let me the infotainment. So in 2020 I bought an Audi A3 Edition 1 in Turbo Blue. I thought that I would wait and see if VW sort out the design and software issues with the mk8.

Looks to me like the mk8.5 has sorted out my issues now. However, as already mentioned the choice of colours is well, not to my taste and the price of a GTi is eye watering. The VED Tax for the first year and the following couple of years is also ridiculous.

Anyway, gripe over, I do have a soft spot for the GTi and I loved my 7.5pp and I do want to buy a 8.5 GTi. But I am retired now and don't have as much disposable income as I used to have.

So I am thinking of buying a used one, but there are not many around. I do like the oyster silver or pure white version with Queenstown wheels.

Can't make my mind up about the option of black styling which amongst other things removes the iconic front end red GTi stripes.

Also, I have seen a few GTis advertised by dealers with 4,000 to 5,000 miles which are only a few months old. Are these worth looking at or are they demo cars?

Any comments would be welcome on my thoughts on what I am thinking about colour choice, black styling and buying a used one that is only a few months old but with 4k to 5k miles on them.

I would be buying it with cash rather than on finance - any thoughts on that as I understand that no discount is offered on a used car.

Many thanks.
