Wider always on the back, some cars have it like that by design but I've never heard of any with wider at the front.
Also with a FWD car wider on the front would really increase the risk & severity of lift-off oversteer.
I went from 225 to 235 in 2 steps - 235s on the rear & 225s on the front, the fronts wear quicker then I put the new 235s on the rear and moved the existing 235s to the front.
I always put new tyres on the rear then rotate forwards. There are differing opinions to the merits of that, but it's what I've done for 20+ years of hot hatches.
BTW 235s on the GTIs look awesome and give a little bit more protection for your wheels.  :smug:

I have ordered the gunmetal. Hopefully they will turn up next week. Thanks for the tip about the forum discount.

I think I will bite the bullet and just get 4x 235 PS4s so that I have a full set of tyres on my Brescias if I need to take the car in to VW. I still have some warranty left and they use any excuse to wriggle out of a claim.

The lacquer was coming off the Brescias after they were refurbed a couple of years ago when I bought the car. They have agreed to do them again for free which is a complete result. I can then put those away and pop them back on if I ever sell up. I love the brescias but the diamond cut finish is a real PITA.

I did read somewhere that polo centre caps may fit the CM wheels (part number: 1J0601171XRW). My Son has a polo so I will pop one off and give it a try before ordering any stickers.

I have also read that the wheel bolt covers may not fit without some doctoring.

"I think I will bite the bullet and just get 4x 235 PS4s so that I have a full set "

Good plan - probably the safest and wisest choice.

I ran 235 rear and 225 front only for a few months and didn't\don't drive it hard. But if I'd had the cash to do all 235s at once I would have.

Good luck, put a picture up once you're done.

I tried mk4 Golf (same size as Polo) centre caps on my CM reps and they didn’t fit so will be interested to hear if the Polo caps fit your set.
The bolt caps fitted in mine ok (not Pretoria reps though) but I’ve read reports some Pret reps struggle to accept VW bolt covers but others are ok. They probably buy in from more than one supplier or indeed the supplier uses more than one factory.

The polo caps I have (6C0.601.171) fit perfectly in the space but the clips are too short by quite some margin.

These are the only 56mm stick on ones I can find on ebay. Will give them a shot.

The stickers from ebay are not domed enough for the caps provided which is a pain.

I guess I could get some OEM 56mm caps and just silicone them in?

Is another option might be to get some flat faced generic black centre caps (lots on eBay for around £5-£7 for a set of four) and a set of flat (non-domed) VW logo centre cap stickers? I’ve seen the stickers (and centre caps) in a range of sizes so you should be able to achieve a cost effective ‘VW look’, albeit one that looks a little two dimensional because the centre cap face / centre cap sticker would be flat.

There are also companies that’ll make centre cap stickers in a range of size options. You might be able to find a company that can produce a set with the same curvature as your CMWheels centre caps; worth trying an internet search on ‘custom made alloy wheel centre caps’ or similar search to see what you’re able to find. Assuming your search returns some worthwhile results, you may need to give them a call to explain the issue you’re having re. the correct curvature to fit your centre caps.

2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

Should the tyre pressures on the 235/35/R19s be set the same as the original 225/35/R19s?
