panel filter and drill some holes wing side, remove and bits of usless plastic from air box, will sound just as good as cone filter, ull keep your fuel economy and u hant gotta fidle around trying to mount stuff. its all about the noise at the end of the day

agreed. with that engine its more hassle than its worth fitting an induction kit.

just drill the air box and stick a panel filter in there. I'm tired of telling people this! Unless you live in a seriously cold country or you have an excellent heat shield (I'm talking expensive stuff or custom jobbys) then you will loose more than gain, and in a 1.8 you can't afford to loose much tbh....Just buy a K&N or pipercross (pipercross in my opinion) panel filter, remove any restrictive bits of plastic in the air box and the trumpets on the inside of it then drill some holes or a section out of the lower air box half from the front, wing side and rear of it, not the engine side of it! Now that set up will make a positive difference and it will also work out cheaper than buying a cone filter.

and if you want more noise, just add one of those stainless roar pipes or watever they call them, makes the bay look nicer aswell, not entirely sure if they serve any good purpose other than asthetics and noise but were not exactly talking vr6 turbo 4 billion bhp stuff here

Early 1.4s had the old round air filters, they won't fit yours.

Later 1.4's had a similar set up to the 1.8.

Later 1.8s have the same induction set up as the 2.0 8V minus the MAF.

Wouldn't bother, I don't agree they do anything at all anyway, unless positioned at the very front of the car under the bumper, which is useless for road driving.

Manufacturers spent thousands of pounds developing that airbox for your specific car, those universal jobbies ruin that.
