AS  matter of interest mate what did the MFA read out give you compared to the proper brim-to-brim test?

I have no idea.  I wouldn't trust the MFA any further than I could throw the car.

Manual tests FTW.

As for the rest of you, you clearly don't know what Isle of Wight roads are like - it's not somewhere good to try to get high MPGs, especially not if you enjoy driving.

I remain pleased with that figure, for a KE-Jet powered car.

The real meat in the test, as spotted by Dec is what the ABF does when driven in the same conditions, in the same car, by the same driver, using the same attitude.

I was just wondering if you reset the MFA just to see if it was ballpark accurate or way out. When I tried I found it to be withing 5% which isn't too bad. Really miss having an MFA on the Polo. Can't believe VW were fitting them to GTI's as far back as the late 70's but were still too tight in 2000 to put them i all their cars!

What people forget is thats island driving with constant stop start traffic.
I get 23 mpg on the mfa most of the time but thats short runs,on a long run it ll be round 30.All my golfs have done that, havent a clue how you work it out properly.

Fill your car until the fuel pump clicks off once - don't squeeze that last bit in, just stop on the last click.

Reset the trip.

Now do some driving.

Now re-brim the tank, using the same procedure as last time, preferably at the same pump as last time (easy on the Island).

Check the litres dispensed on the pump.

Check the trip.

Now you need to get your phone out and do a quick calculation to get from litres, to gallons, to MPG.

litres/4.546 = gallons

miles driven/gallons used = MPG

So for my last tank:

51/4.546 = 11.22 gallons

287/11.22 = 25.58MPG

I was surprised to find no MFA in the Polo, too.  You just have to accept you don't really need an MFA and that you just like to have one.

can't stand the Green Stuff pads on it.   They're........ rubbish.  You start out and they're like a board because they're cold.  Then there's about a five minute period when they're nice and bitey.  I suspect if you were taking it relatively easy on wide A-roads they'd be OK.  Unfortunately as soon as you ask anything much of them they stink the place out and stop stopping.  :undecided:

Gonna have to source a set of 280mm OEM rotors and pads and some carriers ASAP.

Another tank, another 24.5MPG.

If I'm kinder on the way home the brakes don't turn to pish - I guess they just have a narrow operating range before they get roasted.  RUBBASH!
