Just a heads up, just seen that the latest map update has been released dated 20/06/22.
https://app-connect.volkswagen.com/mapupdates/en/car/#download
-
Thanks, been a while and been driving across fields locally as new roads have been built.
Downloading now.
-
Does it really take 4 hours as it says in the notes at the end?!
-
Takes a while to download the files to sd card and the last time I updated the maps it took about 40 mins.
-
Cheers.
-
Takes time to download the 28GB of 7z file.
Takes time to unpack it.
Takes time to copy the unpacked files to a SD card.
Takes time to install the files/maps in your car.
But still worth the effort!
-
Some of us still get 7-12mb/s, I'd like it but think I'll leave it
-
Think I'm going to leave it too. As naff as it looks I like having Google maps on my phone in the cradle.
-
I use Bundle 7 which weighs in at 8GB. I don't think I'll be driving in Serbia any time soon so it's not worth downloading the full Europe bundle.
-
Finally done mine, first download failed after about 1 hr 48 mins with about 3 secs to go.
2nd time, all went well, actual update took about 45 mins.
-
Thanks for the info. Should only take me about 5 mins to download the file but just wondered how long the car needs to be switched on for and do the maps look different, as I can’t stand the current ones.
But if only 40 mins of car on then might give it a go.
-
Its just map data.... they won't look any different...
-
Shame. Yes completed, didn’t take long, 4 mins to download and about 20 to extract.
-
Would the dealer update this when you take your car in for a service if its under 3 years old or is that optimistic?
-
Optimistic. In my experience it never happened despite annual servicing for three years. That was across two different dealers.
-

Probably not, just do it yourself...
It's only downloading a zip, extracting it and copying the maps on to the SD card.
I've updated mine twice every year since i've had the car, still use Waze though.
-
Ok just got back to look at this and the file for MIB1 is 25GB and the map files are all too big for the 8GB card they seem to have changed the structure of the map data so can't put it on?
Even Discovery Care only downloads a file just over 7GB but as usual it will not complete.
-
Bundle 6 fits onto the standard 16gb card that I have in my car.... seems the best compromise of countries, although I have the latest update it still missed many of the 'new' HS2 roundabouts that I cam across last week when I was around Oxford.
-

My dealer did, Hadwins. Waited 30mins more for them to do it at my service. Or so they say, the version number doesn't look up to date iirc.
-
I have been updating my maps since 2016, but the summer release was never this late!
What is going on?
Besides, now you have to register; no simple download as in the past.
-
Thanks for sharing this. I’ll read the .pdf guide but I assume you download the selected map data file to your PC etc. and then transfer to the flash card in the glovebox?

yes, it's easy to do but VW now get you to login to download the map data. You will also need to unzip your download before moving it to your card.
-
Thanks, I’ve just read through the .pdf guide and it looks straightforward enough. I’ve already got a VW login so that’s ok.
-
Just make sure you don't choose download 1 as this won't fit a standard Discover media sd card.

Just checked and there are new maps dated 19/06/2023.
Not sure if they've changed the way the bundles are named?
I usually go for B6 but it seems the whole of Europe is now not given a number just a name, so the bundle I will now use is B5 as I'd rather have Italy than the Scando countries.
Some of the bundles are a bit odd as to the countries they include.
-
Yes, today the maps have been updated to 19 June 2023 version. I should have complained earlier!

they were updated late last week.
-
I tried yesterday and it still offered me 11 November 2022 version.
And I checked each day since mid-June.
-
Interestingly enough, it may have something to do with the cokies. As on my home desktop computer, it still offers me the 28/11/22 version! I am glad I checked at work earlier today and downloaded the new 19/06/23 version. It is already installed in my GTI!
BTW, if you have Discover Pro, for the first time the EU maps will not fit on a 32GB SD card!
You need to use 64GB.
-
Any news anyone on the new maps for 2024? Usually, by this time of year, we had the new version. The webpage still shows 19/06/2023 as the latest one...
-
Finally, the latest maps P350 version from 27/11/2023 are online, so do download them.
Since 2016 when I got my Golf it was never this late!
-
Wish they would give us traffic data (unless its just me), makes the map system seem like its from the 2000's

Yeah, the lack of that makes the inbuilt satnav all but useless to me. I'm not sure I've ever updated my maps. Android Auto and Google Maps for me
-
We all used to be able to get TMC info but that disappeared a while and there are numerous threads on various VW & Skoda forums about it.
You can still get traffic info and re-routing using We Connect Plus but you have to pay for it if your three year free subscription has expired.

Anyone dared try the fix to get TMC working again via a coding change?? - https://www.ttforum.co.uk/threads/fixed-rds-tmc-no-longer-working-in-uk.2032197/#post-9622197

I'll try this as it boils my pi44 that VW have this as a subscription service! Will report back.

Post #32 gives the most info on the coding changes required.

Yes, I agree. But a few times when I crossed the border between two countries and I needed to take a turn soon and the mobile phone was taking too long to connect to a new network, the inbuilt maps were priceless.

Just logged into VW and it says 19/06/23 is the latest update available

Just had a play around, the November update is for Discover Pro only
-
And as I mentioned previously, if you have Discover Pro, you will now need 64GB SD card, maps can't fit into a 32GB card anymore!
-
Pretty sure the map update is the same for both Discover and Pro, it's just the size of the file that stops you.
-
So will the std discover media take the file but the SD card won't because its not big enough, or won't the unit store the 31.8gb file?
Surprised they haven't split up the file like before, can't say I have a need for many countries other than:
Coverage: Albania*, Andorra, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina*,
Bulgaria*, Denmark, Germany, Estonia*, Finland, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Kosovo*, Croatia, Latvia*, Liechtenstein, Lithuania*, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova*, Monaco, Montenegro*, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania*, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland, Serbia*, Slovakia, Slovenia*, Spain, Czechia, Ukraine*, Hungary, Vatican City, United Kingdom, Belarus*, Cyprus*
and France is only on the list because the channel tunnel touches down there
-
Discover doesn't save the maps it uses the SD card. Only pro version downloads them.
-
Just downloaded the latest maps for my 2016 GTD, but I don't fully understand what's going on with the files. The date stamp on the actual files in the maps folder is 29/10/2022, but the version on the Nav screen is 2024. Anybody have a clue?

Just updated my Discovery Pro, and my unit reports this -

does that mean if I get a bigger card it would work?

yes but the VW SD card has some sort of security id file embedded into it so you can't use just any card. You can buy hooky ones from eBay though 👍🏻
-
thank you

@mcmaddy Did you try this coding change to see if it restores TMC??

It works, I did it a few months ago and it is still working better than it did originally.

What method did you use??

Just checked on VCDS, and 32782 is the one that worked for my car. I did try both and the other one didn't make a difference.
Just need the maps updating for mine now as the new bypass still shows me driving across a field.

haven't had a chance yet but I will.
-
According to Finglonga it works a treat.
-
Changed my TMC number over to 32782 but doesn't seem to work for me. Perhaps because I only have discovery media system? (VW tech is not my chosen subject obvs) Then I reset by holding the power button till it turns off and on? but still couldn't seem to get it to work, so thought best to leave alone.
-
What was the original number before you changed it? My car is a 2013/4 MIB1 Discovery Media.
-
My number was 32768 if I remember, but didn't think to right it down.
If i'm honest I don't really understand it all, but i know how to set the number in OBD11 but beyond that i'm lost
-
My original number was "3" from the factory for some reason and TMC used to work but went dark a couple of years ago.
AS for the Maps update it still is the old maps on the website.
-
Can the change be made via OBD11? I did have a quick look but couldn't find it, but I'm not too familiar with this coding stuff. If anyone could point me where to go, that would be amazing.
-
Should be able to, can't check at the moment as I lent my OBDEleven to a friend a few months ago buy usually it is the same steps as VCDS.
-
Slight drift.
Is there a way of deleting only individual saved destinations in the nav?
All I can find is 'deleting user data' which seems to remove all data from a particular category.
I guess I could move all of my important locations into Favourites and then delete the adhoc Destinations? I hope it's easy to convert something to a favourite rather than having to re-enter each one.
-
sorry maybe silly question or answered already how do u update it to your car after its downloaded ?

need to use the VW navigation card if you've got discover media or an SD card for discover pro ( high speed preferably)
-
So get the sd card out of my car put it in my laptop and update it that way ? Thought it might have been N easier way - thanks

copy the contents of your old card to a folder on your laptop in case it goes tlts up.
Make sure you've used 7zip to unzip your download and then finally make sure your files go in the root of the SD card (just make sure the file structure looks exactly the same when putting new maps on) 👍
-
Not having much luck here today - just gone the car to remove the SD card from the inside the reader in the glove box and it seems like the SD card is stuck in the reader FFS/FML - when i push it there no click sound to release it and it wont budge
Any ideas ? or anyone else had this happen ?
-
SD cards should be all the same size. You need to press it in first before it'll pop out.
-
yep done that - i push it and expect it to click and release (ie come out a bit further) but it seems stuck
