I really don't want to be a kill joy, but if you make modifications to the car, especially in regards to its performance, you have to disclose it to your insurance company.

So you probably wouldn't be any better off.

And if you accidently have a crash, and the insurance investigator goes "hmm, did a Driver really come with those turbos" you may end up in a sticky situation.

Sorry,

i think by putting a gti exhuast system (4-2-1 manifold) it adds a couple of bhp as well as a nice sound. Im going to be putting a Webber carburettor on mine in the summer which will improve the running of the engine and should make a difference to the acceleration (so ive been told). ??? Apart from that im not sure what else would improve it. :-/

I used to have a 1.8 Carb GL.  I replaced the Pierburg with a Weber.  I also fitted an original GTi exhaust and a K&N panel.  I also had a GTi oil cooler and GTi rear disk conversion from a Jetta Gt.   It felt a little more torquey at the low revs. I added a road Kent Cam and lost a bit on the bottom end but you could feel it pull more at the higher revs, but not much.

Other mods included the Gti front disks and Weitec Coilovers.  15" Chrome Clipper wheels.  90 Spec arches and bumpers, mattig rear spoiler and SWG twin headlight grill and deep spoiler and colourcoded items.  It was really nice for a metalic gold golf GL and the Ecotek.  GTi Steering wheel etc.

Since then I had a GTi and now a 16v, but I wished at the time I just put Twin Weber 40's on the GL with port and polishing as the engine is similar to the GTi 8v, with a Gti 4y gearbox and drive shafts and 16v Brakes.
