mk1 gear linkage repairs
« on: 21 May 2006, 15:44 »
afternon people,

After picking up some supplies from my new friends at Halfords I was looking forward to puting in a good few hours working on the bodywork. My plans were slightly changed due to the fact we live in a country that has a summer that lasts 3 days in june and a couple of days in August! it's been pissing down all day so I have had to do my inside jobs like read the paper about the new set of freaks in the BB house and make myself a rather tasty meatball sandwich.
Anyway back to the job in hand, my soon to be roadworthy 1982 mk1 1600 has the usual problem of a sometimes hard to select gearchange problem.
It's not that bad and I still can drive her but i have seen on ebay sometimes a gear linkage repair kit. My question is should I get it from ebay or does anyone know of a shop that sell it? if so how much would i be looking at and is it a simple enough job?

chers people

dave

just make sure that you get a set of vernier calipers to centre the gearstick properly, I did't and it cost me a gearbox :embarassed:

it's an accurate measuring device, should be able to get from halfords, motor facrors (£10) etc. Just saying what happened to me when my gearstick was out of place, I tried to force the car in gear and cos it wasnt set up right I must've tried to put in reverse when going forwards....not recommended
