There is a lot in the media about E10 eco fuel , will my 2002 1.8 Turbo GTI run OK on it or do I need to use E5 ??
Thanks

Hello - I do not have an answer for you but here is an article with a reasonable write-up on the subject of E10:

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-6109487/Almost-one-million-UK-cars-arent-compatible-new-E10-petrol-set-introduced.html

Choice snippets include:
"However, more than 800,000 UK petrol vehicles - including family favourites like the Volkswagen Golf and Nissan Micra - can't run on it, according to a new report from the RAC Foundation."

"The Government is proposing to guarantee the availability of E5 petrol only until 2020 and the introduction of E10 would also likely spell the end for super-unleaded, or 97 unleaded - fuel."

"Recent laws have dictated that all new petrol cars sold in the European Union from 2011 must able to run on E10."

"It said that 868,517 cars owned by Britons today won't be able to run on the new higher-ethanol fuel - include 10 per cent of petrol-powered Volkswagen Golfs."

Etc and so on...

Only very few early direct injection engines cannot use it.
A mk4 1.8t will be fine.

Even though E10 can contain up to 10% Ethanol, usually it's only around 6-7%. It has been in use in most of Europe with no issues.

Let’s hope they don’t get rid of Super Unleaded, my Golf R doesn’t drink anything else.

Due to the recent BBC created shortage madness I filled up with E10, previously car had never had anything apart from Shell V Max. Couldn’t notice any difference on a long journey this weekend. Filled up again with V Max a bit earlier today though.

I have not noticed any difference on the two fills either but not driven a regular route to see any consumption differences - 1% less energy would take a time to be noticeable anyway. More concerned with possibly less fuel additives and have not seen any information about content on suppliers web sites.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Choose the fuel with the highest RON number. Shell V-Power or Esso Supreme +, both 99.

That’s my plan, dunno what the dealer filled it with on collection, but I’ve done 400 miles on it on my typical commute, 40 miles each way, mixed driving, bit of motorway, but of dual carriageway bit of a road, slow moving to start…  not bad at all and to be fair I’m very surprised
