Title: Clubsport tyres
Post by: JNL on 17 July 2021, 19:20
Interested to hear others thoughts on the current tyres fitted to my CS. I picked it up earlier this week with the expectation that it would be fitted with bridgestones, but I’ve just notice that the tyres fitted are Goodyear Eagle F1’s.
is this a good or bad thing for the GTI? (I’ve come from a Rocco R with Michellin PS4s fitted hence the question).

Although I might be wrong, from what I have read, the Goodyears are a better all rounder than the Bridgestones.  The Bridgestones from past experience have been fairly good in dry weather/road conditions, but not as good in the wet.  Also they wear fairly quickly.  From what I have read and been told the Goodyears are better in all weathers.  I have a MK8 Golf R Performance Pack on order and hope that it comes with the Goodyears fitted.  My current Golf R came with Conntinental PS5's and they were better than the Bridgestone Potenzas I had on the MK7 GTi Performance and various Civic Type-R's prior to that car.

One of the best you can get. They would be quicker in the dry than the PS4s but not as good in the wet.

Thanks! This sounds reassuring to hear. I have no complaints so far either!

I’ve heard from a few places the new potenzas on the mk8 are a lot better than the old ones. It does seem like a lucky dip though between Bridgestone, Goodyear and hankooks. Would be nice if you could choose when ordering.

The mk8 uses bs s005's not the terrible s001's from the mk7...

They are better but I'll put ps4s's on when these wear out.

Just fitted pilot sport 4 S tto my mk7.5 GTI performance after that original zero never been so Iimprezzed with a tyre massive  grip and traction in all weather and conditions  I run winters so ca can't comment on the winter performance but as a summer/ wet weather tyre they are fantastic well worth the extra cash.

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/2021-Tyre-Reviews-UHP-Summer-Tyre-Test.htm

In this tyre test for 225/40R18's the Goodyear F1 AS5 are equal to the Michelin PS4 and PS4S, just with better wet performance versus the michelins but worse dry performance.

So for everyday the Goodyear is the best tyre, if it's only for summer get Michelins.

Thanks for sending this through. Seems pretty reassuring.

The above tyres are supersports not assy 5’s. Supersports are a raceyer tyre that aren’t as good in the wet. Assy 5’s are more of an allrounder.

Never thought they'd put Supersports on a Golf from factory, so assumed they were AS5's because they'd be cheaper.

Goodluck wear a crash helmet
