Title: What's the reason for the site not being https encrypted?

Seems a huge oversight nowadays, especially on a site with user logins and personal info

I have also wondered about the lack of HTTPS, with passwords and details being sent unencrypted.  Is there a plan to implement a a TLS/SSL certificate on the website anytime soon?
