Title: VAGCOM / FAULT CODES & Users location database
Post by: richandhazel on 15 February 2006, 11:00
Here is a useful database I found of VAGCOM users around the country. Hopefully you can find one near you should the need arise.

http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/123503/ShowPost.aspx (http://www.uk-mkivs.net/forums/123503/ShowPost.aspx)

And some pointers to get you started

www.ross-tech.com

either buy genuine lead or an Ebay special and download the software from Ross Tech

OBD Port (where you plug in) is located above the ashtray and below the aircon controls

List of fault codes can be found here

 Ross Tech Wiki  (http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Main_Page)

That should get most of you started.  Search the forum too as there's hundreds of VAG COM threads kicking about

VAGCOM is the software used to interrogate all your 'boxes' and ECU. Similar if not the same as the software that VAG use when they plug a laptop into your car.

Sorry, I'm also a bit lame on this stuff, how detailed would the diagnostics report be?  EG pipe cracks or something as minor as that?

Guys there is a dedicated VAG-COM/VCDS forum here now.

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=87936.0

Perhaps if you have VAG-COM and don't mind helping then you could add yourselves to the list.

Thanks.

I don't have vag com but have elm scan, an OBD II plug in fault code reader and reseter, not sure if it works on my wifes golf but will give it a go over the weekend, i know it works on many other cars with OBD II so can't see why it won't work, i use it on my scooby. i am in Tidworth in Hampshire/Wiltshire.

Tried at the weekend and it didn't work, may work on a newer mk4, but am looking to get a vagcom soon.

Have just read Rhyso's build thread and didn't know you could do miles to empty in middle of dash on computer  Thought could only do this on climate panel. The search begins for vag-tacho in West Yorkshire!!!!

Bar-steward!!! Have read a thread on another forum and don't think I can do it as I have a type 2 dash and not a 3

Rhyso does your little yellow immobiliser light pop up on your rev-counter or your speedo please?

This was the thread I read so I knew I couldn't do it on mine.

Is the immobiliser warning light trick a fool-proof way of checking what you've got or are there any others pref. without stripping my dash to bits....

Guess my miles to empty will have to continue to run of the grey-matter calculation of 25mpg!!!!

Don't becoming back saying yours is 45mpg Rhyso!!!!!!!!!!

two seconds to pull the clocks out - pull out the trim under the clocks, 2 x Torx10 screws and unclip the two connectors - part number is on the back :afro:

My long term average is currently showing 50.9mpg

I've got a Mk 4 Golf TDi with an airbag light on. The light is on because I removed the fuse when fault finding a headlight and the fault code just needs cleared with VAGCOM. I've bought the cable but can't work it out, any chance anybody could give me a hand? I'd also be interested in:

Auto Lock
Auto Unlock
Beep On Lock
Remote Windows
Miles To Empty
Illuminated Needles

I'm from Newcastle area and any help would be greatly appreciated.
