Rear brakes rubbing caliper fix
« on: 16 February 2012, 20:27 »
One of my rear calipers on my AGU 1.8T was sticking, tried all the usual bits and bobs with the handbrake cable, replaced the discs and pads, So seemed like the caliper needed to be replaced.

After deliberating... £150+ for a new caliper from VW £60-100 from other parts places or £40+ vat from a scrappy...

I bought a service kit from VW for the rear calipers. (sorry dont have the part number) it contains a seal which is on the inside of the piston and the rubber boot surrounding the piston.

Take the caliper off, unwind the piston out (oposite way to rewinding it if replacing pads), clean everything up, put the new seals in after soaking them for 45mins, put it back together, bleed the rear caliper and top up the reservoir.

At first it seemed only slightly better once the wheel was back on i could spin the wheel with one finger and it would continue you spin once i let go... which before was not possible, i could only move the wheel using my hand and once i let go it stopped immediately.

The kit comes with parts for both calipers... CHEAP FIX :D.
