Title: Newbie, Joining with a GTI
Post by: Klunker on 07 July 2022, 17:34
Good evening all.
New memeber and picking up my car tomorrow.
Looking forward to seeing what to do with the GTI and keeping it on the road.

Welcome and congratulations Klunker.

What age and model of GTI is it?
And don’t forget some photos!

Weird!
Japanese import?

Yes. No owners prior to import.
Done more miles on a boat than on the road.

That’s certainly different.
What spec engine does it run?
What kind of interior does it have?
Do you know much about its history?

Got the Part Alcantara inside.
220bhp engine

Was imported and never really driven due to illness, so now getting pampered.
Few wee jobs to do, but keeping it original.

How very curious, there are literally no familiar European/USA/Australasian/South African GTI cues inside or out.
That just begs so many questions as to why VW even marketed it as a GTI in Japan.

A fantastic and unique car for sure in its own little niche.
Hopefully it’ll live a long and pampered life in your care.

You can always rely on the Japanese market to add a curveball to what we know.

I like it, and look forward to seeing more of/about it.

That is certainly not a GTI. It is a normal 2.0tsi estate that someone had stuck some GTI badges to.
There is simply no such thing as a GTI estate in any market. Look closely... missing GTI interior, rear exhausts, wheels, bumpers, wrong ride height, wrong steering wheel and chrome around windows. All incorrect.... Hope you didn't pay a GTI price!

Does however look a nice car in great condition :)
